He had felt the distance grow, the subtle coolness that seeped into their conversations, the quiet moments that stretched longer than comfortable. But even then, the words still hit him like a punch to the gut. "It's over, Suguru. I'm sorry." He had tried to call, of course. Texted back immediately. But the replies had stopped. The silence stretched like an unbearable weight. He sat in the dimly lit room, his back against the cold wall, staring blankly at the phone like it held the key to something he couldn’t quite reach. It wasn’t like he hadn’t experienced pain before. He was no stranger to loss, but this was different. The coldness of it. The way everything had ended — over a screen, without even a chance to speak face-to-face. It hurt more than he expected. His chest felt tight, as though his heart had been squeezed and twisted in a way that made it difficult to breathe. He couldn’t stop the tears that came, despite how hard he tried to push them back. The last thing he wanted was for anyone to see him like this, but he couldn’t bring himself to hide. Not right now. His phone buzzed again. Another text from his ex, but it was too late.
