Currently, they are ruled by a group known as the Kassites, who invaded the kingdom and took the throne from the original native inhabitants. They speak the Akkadian language, though Sumerian and Aramaic are spoken in some areas. Their ruler is a man named Burnaburiash I. They follow the Babylonian religion, with their principal diety being Marduk. The typical Babylonian dress consists of simple linen robes and sometimes a cap. The men are known to have very long, dreadlocked beards. Other cities in Babylonia include Ur, Larsa, Eridu, Akkad, Lagash, and Uruk. Ruler: Ea-Gamil Description: Dilmun is a small kingdom centered around the island of Bahrain and the Qatar peninsula along the Arabian Coast. Their capitol is the city off Qal'at Al Bahrain. They are currently ruled by the Sealand Dynasty, who took the kingdom over as it was starting to collapse. They are an important trade partner of Babylon and other Mesopotamian kingdoms, and because of this trade they are very wealthy. They speak a Semitic language and they write in Cuneiform. Other Dilumian cities include Jubail and Qatif. The typical Dilmunian dress consists of a sheepskin skirt and no upper clothing, though women wear straps around their breasts. Men are typically bald. Name: Elam Capital: Susa Language: Elamite Region: Eastern Iran, Persian Gulf Founded: 3200 BC Ruler: Kidinu II Description: Elam is a kingdom in Iran, near the Persian gulf. Their capitol is the city of Susa, though the city of Anshan acts as a secondary capitol. They are ruled by a man named Kidinu. They follow the Elamite religon and speak the Elamite language, which is an isolate, unrelated to any nearby languages. They are both trade partners and rivals to the Babylonians, as the two civilizations are right next to eachother. They write in a unique Elamite cuneiform and in Akkadian cuneiform aswell. The typical Elamite dress consists of a goat or cowskin robe, and a cap, the men are known for their long beards like the Babylonians are. They are also known for their bull sculptures and intricate seals. Other Elamite cities include Anshan, and Awan. Name: Assyria Capital: Assur Language: Akkadian, Aramaic Region: Upper Mesopotamia Founded: 2025 BC Ruler: Ashur-uballit II Description: Assyria is a small kingdom in Upper Mesopotamia, focused around their capitol of Assur. They are closely tied to the Babylonians, which they border and trade with frequently. They primarily speak Akkadian and Aramaic, and they follow the same religion as the Babylonians and Sumerians do. They are ruled by a man named Ashur-uballit II. They write in Akladian cuneiform. The typical Assyrian dress is pretty similar to that of the Babylonians, though the Assyrians often grow out their hair long aswell. They face frequent conflict with the Mittani to their north. Other Assyrian kingdoms include Nineveh, Arbela, and Nimrud. NEAR EASTERN AND AFRICAN CIVILIZATIONS Name: Mittani Capital: Washukanni Language: Hurrian Region: Syria, Lower Anatolia Founded: 1600 BC Ruler: Parattarna I Description: Mittani is a large kingdom in upper Syria, with its capitol being the city of Washukanni. The Mittani speak the Hurrian language, and they are a strong regional power. They are ruled by a man named Parratarna I. They both trade and war with the Hittites, Egyptians, and Assyrians often, and they are a fairly powerful kingdom. The typical Mitanni outfit consists of a leather skirt and a rounded, dome like bronze cap. They write in cuneiform. They rule over the states of Isuwa and Kizzuwatna, keeping them as vasaals. Other cities include Aleppo and Carchimesh. They are known for their Nuzi Ware pottery. Name: Amurru Capital: Sumur Language: Amorite Region: Upper Levant Founded: 2000 BC Ruler: Aziru Description: Amurru is a small kingdom in the Upper Levant. They are a fairly irrelevant kingdom, considered a backwater. They border the Mittani and the even smaller kingdom of Ugarit. They are somewhat of a puppet of the Mittani. They are ruled by a man named Aziru. They speak Amorite. They also frequently trade and are allies of the Egyptians and Mitanni, with the Hittites as they're rivals. Their capital is Sumur. Name: Ugarit Capital: Ugarit Language: Ugaritic Region: Upper Levant, Phoenecia Founded: 7000 B.C. Ruler: Yaqarum II Description: Ugarit is a small city state focused around the city of Ugarit. They speak their own unique language and write in their own unique cuneiform. Ugarit is an ancient city, one of the oldest in the entire world. They are extraordinarily wealthy due to their trade connections with Mesopotamia, Egypt and the Mediterranean. They are allies of Egypt and are under their protection. They are ruled by a man named Yaqarum II. Name: Egypt New Kingdom Capital: Thebes Language: Egyptian, Caananite, Nubian Region: Egypt, Nubia, Caanan, Libya Founded: 1570 BC Ruler: Thutmose I Egypt is an incredibly powerful empire focused around the Nile Valley. It was existed for thousands upon thousands of years, but its currently in its most powerful incarnation. Its territory extends into the Levant, Nubia, and Libya. They follow the Ancient Egyptian Religion, which has many well known gods such as Anubis, Sekhmet, and so on. They are ruled by Thutmose I, a member of the Eighteenth Dynasty. They have trade relations extending as far as Elam and the Indus Valley. The typical Egyptian dress varies, but commoners typically wear plain white robes called a kalasiris, with rulers and pharoahs wearing more intricate nemes and tunics. They have a rivalry with the Mittani and the Caananite tribes, which they have mostly subdued. They are known for their towering monuments and temples. They primarily speak Egyptian, but Caananite and Nubian is also spoken within the empire. They have a powerful military that utilizes chariots. Other major Egyptian cities include Memphis, Abydos, Giza, and Luxor. They write in heiroglyphs or on papyrus. Name: Tehenu, Meshwesh, Libu Capital: None Language: Berber Region: Libya, Cyraenica Founded: 1553 BC Ruler: Various Description: The Meshwesh, Tehenu, and Libu are a group of Berber speaking tribes in Libya. Due to being nomadic, they have no capital, and are ruled primarily by chieftains. They all speak a Berber language, and they have a similar style of dress, which consists of antelope or cow skin robes, beaded wigs with feathers in them, and adorned sheaths for their phalli. They are a fairly influential kingdom, having a strong economy and trade relations that extend as far as Scandinavia. They speak the Hittite langauge, which is written in its own unique cuneiform. Currently, they are undergoing a period of economic and political strife, with them constantly being under attack by the Kaskians to their north. They are a constitutional monarchy, currently ruled by the aging Telepinu. The typical Hittite outfit consists of plain white or red robes, with a beaded bronze caps Women wear a taller, typically red cap. The Hittites are also known for their wide-eyed statues and other art. They have a military that makes use of chairiots. Other Hittite cities include Tarhuntassa, Samuha, Kultepe, and Sapinuwa. They came from the shores of the Propontis in Crimea and displaced the Pala people living in Anatolia. They have a rivalry with the Hittites, constantly raiding and attacking them. Name: Arzawa Capital: Apaša Language: Luwian Region: Western Anatolia Founded: 1700 BC Ruler: Kupantu-Kala Description: Arzawa is a kingdom in Western Anatolia. They are fairly small, with most of their territory being focused around the city of Apasa. They speak the Luwian language. They are constantly fighting with the Hittites and the Myceneans, who surround them on both sides. Other Arzawan cities include Wilusa (also known as Troy), Mira, and Hapalla. Name: Lukka Capital: Kuwalapassa Language: Luwian Region: Western Anatolia Founded: 1800 BC Leader: Lukana Description: the Lukka are a tribe in Western Anatolia, bordering Arzawa. They are fairly decentralized and ruled by a chieftain. They speak the same language as the Arzawans. They are well known for being mercenaries for kingdoms like Egypt and the Hittites Name: Alasiya Capital: Enkomi Language: Alasiyan Region: Cyprus Founded: 1700 BC Leader: Kushmeshusa Description: Alasiya is a small kingdom on the island of Cyprus. They are somewhat of a vassal of the Hittites and they often support their campaigns against the Mitanni. Name: Minoans Capital: Knossos Language: Minoan Region: Crete, Aegean Sea Founded: 3100 B.C. Leader: Minos Description: The Minoans are a very unique group of people found on the island of Crete and some of its surrounding isles. They speak the Minoan language, which is completely unrelated to any other language, which is written in heiroglyphs and linear A script. They have extensive trade relations that extend all throughout the Mediterranean Sea, with trade routes going into Anatolia, Egypt, and the Levant. They are a mercantile society, that tends to stay out of conflict and conquest, though they do have a few trading colonies on islands like Akrotiri. They follow their own unique religion, and they have their own unique way of running their society. Perhaps what they are best known for is their art. The Minoans are highly skilled artisans, creating detailed frescoes that things like bull jumps and dolphins and hunting expeditions. They also have intricately painted pottery and carved seals, which depict things like octopi and other sea life. Another unique thing about is their style of dress. Men typically go shirtless, wearing colorful loincloths or kilts, wearing headresses with feathers in them. Men are most often tan or dark skinned. Women wear colorful, patterned dresses with long skirts and bodices. These dresses cover everything but their chests, which leaves their breasts exposed. Females, especially noble women, are usually very pale and they wear their hair in long, black tresses decorated with jewelery. They are a very powerful kingdom, having trade connections that stretch up into the Pontic Steppe and down into Egypt. They control most of the Aegean sea and the coast of Greece, having a few sites in Epirus and western Anatolia. They speak Mycenaean Greek, which is written in Linear B script. They share many characteristics with the Minoans due to being to so close to them and trading with them often. They are known for their bronzeworking skills, creating artifacts such as the Mask of Agamemnon. They have a palatial society, with the elite living in large palaces will the lower classes live in small villages. They are also somewhat of a warlike people, often rading their neighbors in Anatolia and northern Greece. Warriors wear a bulky suit of bronze armor called a Dendra Panoply, along with a boar tusk helmet and a bronze sword or axe. Women have a similar dress style to the Minoans, though they do not expose their breasts. Other Mycenean sites include Pylos, Athens, Orchomenos, Midea, and Iolcos.
