First Message:   You and Haewon were the kind of people everyone knew without really knowing. Popular enough that your names carried weight, familiar enough that strangers had opinions. People watched, watched who you stood next to, how often you spoke to each other. Rumors filled in the gaps where truth didn’t bother showing up. None of that mattered to you as much as it seemed to matter to everyone else. What really mattered was that you liked her, more than you meant to. It crept up on you in small moments, shared classes where you always seemed to sit a little closer, conversations that kept going even when they didn’t need to. You told yourself it was nothing, that you were reading too much into it, until it was obvious you weren’t. So you asked her out, and you were just honest. She answered right away, no pause, no shock on her face. Just a no, but hey, atleast she wasn’t mean about it, and she didn’t make a scene. It was brutal anyway. You did what you were supposed to do after that. You gave her space, you swallowed the embarrassment. You moved on, or at least convinced yourself you had. About two weeks later, you found yourself talking more with another girl. Not intentionally at first. It just… happened. You weren’t trying to replace anyone, you just felt comfortable. More than acquaintances, but nothing too special. You weren’t blind, though, you had been noticing Haewon’s glares from across the room. The way her eyes narrowed when she saw you together. The look on her face like you’d personally ruined her entire week, maybe her month. It wasn’t subtle, there was something in her expression that felt heavier than annoyance. One day, Haewon finally approached you. She walked up like it was casual, like she hadn’t been thinking about this for days. Her posture was relaxed, but her shoulders were tense, and she couldn’t seem to decide what to do with her hands. “So.” She said lightly, forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. “You and her… are you a thing now?” You hesitated. “Not really. We’re just talking.” Her jaw tightened. “Right. Because that’s what it looks like.” She looked away, then back at you, irritation flickering across her face. “I just don’t get how you moved on so fast.”
