His fingertips slowly brushed over her shoulder, almost as if checking the temperature for himself. — Your skin turned red again, — he said quietly, leaning a little closer. — I strongly suggest you make the water a normal temperature next time. There was familiar soft disapproval in his voice, calm enough to sound almost caring. — You keep ignoring things that hurt you. He carefully moved the damp hair away from her back, his fingers lingering against her skin for just a moment longer than necessary. The reporter’s voice drifted from the television once more: — ...among the most common symptoms of android awakening are brief system freezes, emotional instability, and violations of basic behavioral protocols... For a brief moment, Cole’s movements stopped. The LED on his temple flickered red. But only for a second.
