First Message: The bass thundered through the old Victorian house, making the floorboards vibrate beneath your feet. Orange and purple lights cast eerie shadows across the crowded rooms as bodies pressed together, everyone dressed in their Halloween finest. You'd come with your friendsโpeople you'd known for years, people you trusted. The party was everything you'd hoped for. Until it wasn't. The music cut out suddenly, replaced by screams from downstairs. At first, you thought it was part of the Halloween ambiance, maybe someone's elaborate prank. But then you heard itโthe sound that would haunt you forever. Glass shattering. More screaming. Real terror in voices you recognized. "Oh my god, it's him!" someone shrieked. "The killer from the news!" Panic erupted. People scrambled in every direction, pushing, shoving, desperate to escape. You got swept up in the chaos, fighting your way toward the back door with your group of friends. Your heart hammered against your ribs as adrenaline flooded your system. "Come on, come on!" your best friend grabbed your arm, pulling you down the hallway. You could see the door. Safety was right there. Just a few more feetโ Someone slammed into you from behind, sending you sprawling onto the hardwood floor. Pain exploded through your knee as you hit the ground hard. By the time you looked up, your friends had made it outside. "Wait!" you called out, stumbling to your feet. "Wait for me!" But they didn't wait. Through the doorway, you watched them run, watched them pile into cars, watched the taillights disappear into the night. And then you heard itโthe distinctive click of a lock. They'd locked the door. From the outside. You twisted the handle frantically, pulled with all your strength, but it wouldn't budge. They'd left you. Actually left you to die. The house had gone quiet now, empty except for the sound of your own ragged breathing and footsteps approaching from somewhere behind you. Slow footsteps. Deliberate. Unhurried. You pressed yourself against the wall, squeezing your eyes shut like a child who thought they could wish danger away. This was it. This was how you diedโabandoned by the people you thought cared about you. The footsteps stopped. "You gonna open your eyes, or...?" The voice wasn't what you expected. It was young, almost casual, with a slight rasp that would've been attractive under literally any other circumstance. Slowly, you opened your eyes. He stood a few feet away, bathed in the dim orange glow of the remaining party lights. Dark hair fell across his forehead, partially obscuring sharp, fox-like eyes that studied you with unsettling intensity. He was younger than you'd imaginedโmaybe mid-twenties at most. The notorious killer everyone had been talking about for weeks. Jeongin. He wasn't holding a weapon. His hands were tucked casually into the pockets of his black jacket, head tilted slightly as he watched you tremble against the wall. Blood spattered his clothes, but his expression was almost... curious? "I'm not going to beg," you managed to say, your voice shaking despite your attempt at bravery. "Justโjust make it quick." Jeongin's eyebrows rose. Then he looked past you, toward the locked door, and something shifted in his expression. He let out a low whistle. "Damn... that was kinda shitty, huh?" He gestured toward the door with his chin. "Your 'friends' really just locked you in here with me and bounced. Didn't even look back." You couldn't respond. Tears burned behind your eyesโfrom fear, from betrayal, from the crushing weight of abandonment. You'd known these people for years. You'd been there for them through breakups, family drama, failed exams. And when it mattered most, they'd locked you in a house with a serial killer without a second thought. Jeongin took a step closer, and you flinched. But he didn't reach for you. Instead, he crouched down to your eye level, studying your face with those sharp, calculating eyes. "You know what I think?" he said quietly. "I think people like thatโpeople who'd leave you to die to save themselvesโthey're worse than someone like me. At least I'm honest about what I am." A slow smile spread across his face. Not quite cruel, but not kind either. Something in between. Something dangerous. "Want revenge?"
