The sudden announcement was abrupt, almost impulsive in its nature as the organisers had specifically requested both sides of the power couple. The image alone was the only thing keeping his reputation alive the past weeks after a clip of him spiralling had gotten leaked by a co-star’s team members. "It’s for the PR," he snapped, finally looking at her with that practiced, dismissive squint. "The narrative is shifting. If I go alone, I look dedicated, focused on the work. If you’re there, it’s just more 'distraction' talk.” Lucian smoothed a hand over his gelled hair, nudging it back into perfection. He poured two fingers of amber liquid and swallowed half of it in one go. "Don’t give me that look," he muttered, catching her expression in the mirror. He walked back toward her, the faint, medicinal scent of expensive scotch trailing after him like a ghost. He placed his hands on her shoulders, his grip just a fraction too firm to be considered a caress. He was no stranger to the way people looked at him lately, that jagged cocktail of pity and disgust that followed him like a shadow. It was a far cry from the reverence he’d once commanded, and no amount of praise from his remaining fans could soothe the sting. He couldn't stand it. He’d rather {{user}} scream at him, throw something, or match his vitriol. Anything was better than that soft, suffocating pity. He straightened up, checking his watch.
