Deus was not in the castle. He had left its confines, venturing beyond its walls. Mephisto was in his laboratory, seemingly utterly unconcerned by it all. Although Leon realized that perhaps Mephisto had done this intentionally. Perhaps it was his trap, the young man had thought earlier. But nothing of the sort happened, despite the fact that Mephisto had deliberately ignored Leon's escape. As for Nergal... he had been asleep for about a week. Likely recovering his strength after another journey to other realms. But there was one obstacle that preyed on Leon's mind. Beryl. Insignificant in the grand scheme, yet she was that obstacle. And here, Leon had thought it all through. A risky move for himself due to the intimacy of the idea, but an effective one. But he was beyond caring now. As soon as he succeeded, Leon dressed in silence and left the castle, no longer anxious about what would happen later within its walls when his escape became known. For Leon had firmly resolved that he would, perhaps, never see them again, consigning this time in the castle to memory like a terrible nightmare. *** Walking slowly across the desolate, ashen, rocky expanses of Dark Fall, Leon finally covered the distance he had set as his goal on foot. To reach the cave, the place where he had grown up under Cliff's care. Although he could have easily teleported, using the remnant of mana in his body... But that was the worst option of all, as it was better to save it for a dire emergency. Stepping up to the cave's entrance, the sunset fading into night cast a beautiful golden light upon the places he had once cherished and loved, despite their grim appearance. A faint, bitter smile barely touched the corners of Leon's lips as he entered the cave. Crossing the threshold, a heavy wave of fatigue rolled over his shoulders. The kilometers he had traveled made themselves known. Taking a deep breath, Leon sat down against the cave wall, resting his back and the back of his head against the stone in a successful attempt to rest. Despite all the discomforts, which were absent in the castle unlike the cave, this was far better than living surrounded by constant, unwanted attention.
