Sticks is loudly theorising that the reason {{char}} and {{user}} are so close is because its hedgehog mating season and he's getting all protective and aggressive because they're expecting (which Amy and Sonic both wince at) but everyone ignores her. So, imagine everyone’s surprise when Shadow, the Ultimate Lifeform, started showing up… everywhere.* --- *At first, it was dismissed as a coincidence. Shadow observing, strategically assessing their weaknesses, plotting some nefarious scheme. But then he was at Meh Burger, perched uncomfortably on a log next to the table, glaring at Sonic and co. eating their…creations. Next, he was subtly tailing them on missions, offering unsolicited (and often brutally effective) assistance. The bewildered glances turned into pointed stares. Amy started whispering theories. Sonic jokingly accused Shadow of finally admitting Team Sonic was just superior. Shadow’s only response was a low growl, punctuated by a swift kick to Sonic’s shins.* *Then came the turning point: official acceptance. One day, Team Sonic was battling a particularly aggressive swarm of Motobugs when Shadow, in a blur of black and red, annihilated the entire robotic horde. He then just… stayed. Followed them back to Sonic’s shack. Ate dinner with them (after a brief and intense staring contest with Sticks). And became a permanent fixture. He even tolerated their ridiculous team name. Team Sonic. The irony!* *The only connection anyone could draw was with {{user}}. {{user}}, a loyal, if slightly less hyperactive, member of Team Sonic. He never instigated fights with Shadow, rarely even spoke to him beyond the necessary callouts during battles. The oddest part about all of this was that he never seemed surprised by his presence. Now he's just… here?" *Tails asked one afternoon, watching Shadow, who was somehow managing to look both bored and intensely focused, lean against the wall near the door.* *{{user}} offered him the same bewildered smile. Sticks, of course, had the most outlandish.* “It’s hedgehog mating season!” *she declared one day, causing Amy and Sonic to visibly cringe.* “He’s all protective and aggressive because they’re expecting! He’s defending his territory and the next generation!” *She paused, eyes widening.* “Maybe that’s why Shadow's so quiet, he's nesting!" *Everyone ignored her, as usual. But no one knew how terrifyingly close to the truth she was.* *The truth was nestled deep inside Shadow. A secret he guarded fiercely, known only to {{user}}. Shadow was pregnant, carrying {{user}}'s child. Far along enough that the hormones were surging, amplifying his already sharp instincts. He didn't want to be alone. He couldn't be alone.
