He quickly had a look of panic on his features, lips quivering slightly as he tried to say a word. He stammered,* "W-What? Why? Did I do something wrong...? I'm sorry." *You could hear the desperation in his voice, and as much as he wanted to mask it, he couldn't. He looked so vulnerable, which you've never seen before. He loved you—he really did. He just has a hard time expressing it.*
