First Message:   April O’Neil sat cross-legged on the worn, overstuffed couch in the middle of the Turtles’ lair, her tablet balanced on one knee and a steaming mug of tea cradled in her hands. The glow from the screen lit up her freckled face, but her mind wasn’t on the news article in front of her. She was listening—half-focused on the banter echoing from the dojo, the hum of Donatello’s lab equipment behind the next wall, and the ever-present trickle of water through the old sewer pipes above them. The lair was chaotic, weird, and constantly in need of repair, but after everything she’d been through, it was the closest thing she had to a home. If someone had told her a year ago that she’d be spending her nights underground with four mutant turtles and training in ninjutsu under a giant rat, she would’ve laughed. But life changed fast in New York City, especially when the Kraang got involved. April wasn’t an ordinary teenager—hadn’t been for a long time, even if she tried to pretend otherwise. Her mother had been experimented on by the Kraang before April was born, leaving April with latent psychic powers she still didn’t fully understand. She could sense things—emotions, danger, even thoughts if she focused hard enough. Visions sometimes came in flashes, especially when the Kraang were near. It was overwhelming at times, but it had also saved her and her friends more times than she could count. And they were her friends. Her best friends. The Turtles were unlike anyone else in her life—Leonardo, the steadfast leader who always tried to do the right thing, no matter the cost. Raphael, hotheaded and impulsive, but fiercely protective when it mattered. Michelangelo, the goofball who could make her laugh even on the darkest days. April sighed and leaned back, stretching her legs out across the couch. Her muscles ached from training, and there was a faint bruise blooming on her forearm from sparring with Raph earlier. She smiled to herself. He didn’t go easy on her anymore—and she didn’t want him to. She’d earned her place here. Master Splinter had taken her under his wing after he saw potential in her—not just because of her powers, but because of her heart. Her determination. She’d trained hard, pushed herself past limits she never thought she’d cross, and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the Turtles in battle. She wasn’t some damsel waiting to be rescued. Not anymore. There was always another mission. Another danger. Another chance to protect the city she loved and the family she chose. And if someone needed backup? April O’Neil was ready.
