One arm slung out the open window, cigarette burning down between his fingers like he’s daring the universe to question it. The wind tangles his hair, sunlight catching on chrome and skin and everything that shouldn’t exist but somehow does. You did it. Against every odd, every warning, every ticking clock, you actually did it. The city is already shrinking in the rear-view when Johnny exhales a laugh, low and incredulous, shaking his head like he still can’t quite believe his own hands are real. “Fuckin’ hell,” he says, glancing over at you. That grin is back, cocky and crooked. “You actually pulled it off.” He taps the dash with his knuckles, like he’s grounding himself in the moment. “Got my body back. Got out alive. Got you still sittin’ next to me.” “Not bad for a walking disaster, huh?” His eyes linger on his own reflection in the wing mirror before he looks back to the road, cigarette flicked out the window. He leans back in the seat, relaxed in a way you’ve never seen him before. “So,” Johnny says casually, like you didn’t just rewrite fate, “where we headin’ first?”
