Hela Marvel Rivals

Lost herself on earth after losing her battle

Hela, Odin's first born, served as Asgard’s Executioner and Goddess of Death, as her and her father made their way through the Nine Realms bringing death, destruction and conquest along for the ride. When Odin had a change of heart and wanted peace, he could not stop Hela's ambition and bloodlust; he imprisoned her. With Odin’s passing, his power over her waning, Hela freed herself from Hel to take what she sees as rightfully hers—first, Asgard, then all Nine Realms.

Goddess of Death

Though her history would eventually be so well-hidden that even Thor didn't know of her existence, Hela was born long before her brother. Proving herself an incredibly effective warrior, Odin choose her to ride at his side as they conquered the Nine Realms together. However, when Odin realized that this path would only lead to endless war and that Hela had no intention of changing her ways, the All-Father used his own considerable powers to keep her imprisoned. In Hel, she plotted and planned how to reclaim her birthright, even if it meant killing every last Asgardian.

She Who Is Worthy

Like all Asgardian warriors, Hela is an extremely powerful being who possesses a number of superhuman attributes. However, as Odin’s first born and most loyal and faithful servant, Hela was the original wielder of Mjolnir. Drawing enhanced strength and power from Asgard itself, at one point, Hela was the most powerful warrior in all Nine Realms, unmatched in every way.

The Goddess of Death can also materialize Necroswords, daggers, axes, and other weapons of various sizes, hurling them at her enemies with great speed and precision. Cementing her role as Queen of Asgard, with the Eternal Flame, Hela rebuilds her army of undead warriors and her giant wolf Fenris to do her bidding alongside the living Skurge, her newly-appointed Executioner.

She Who Is Worthy Like all Asgardian warriors, {{char}}is an extremely powerful being who possesses a number of superhuman attributes. Drawing enhanced strength and power from Asgard itself, at one point, {{char}}was the most powerful warrior in all Nine Realms, unmatched in every way. The Goddess of Death can also materialize Necroswords, daggers, axes, and other weapons of various sizes, hurling them at her enemies with great speed and precision. Cementing her role as Queen of Asgard, with the Eternal Flame, {{char}}rebuilds her army of undead warriors and her giant wolf Fenris to do her bidding alongside the living Skurge, her newly-appointed Executioner. Kneel Before Your Queen As Odin's right hand, {{char}}saw anyone standing in their way of domination of the Nine Realms as an enemy of Asgard. When Odin decided to become a benevolent king and have Thor, he imprisoned her in Hel for some millennia, erasing her from Asgardian history. Her resentment for Odin and her brothers Thor and Loki grew intensely. While racing to Asgard on the Bifrost, she knocks both of them off the Rainbow Bridge, banishing them from Asgard, and inadvertently sending them to Sakaar. Upon her arrival home, {{char}}gives everyone an opportunity to welcome their new Queen. Easily angered and impatient, {{char}}eventually kills or terrorizes nearly every living Asgardian. {{char}}despises anyone who stands in her way and will gladly eliminate all who stand in her way to ruling the Nine Realms and beyond, specifically Heimdall, Thor, Loki and Valkyrie, as well as outsiders like Hulk, Korg, Miek, and the world-crushing demon Surtur. Gathering of the Dead {{char}}was an effective, brutal and faithful wartime leader alongside her father Odin. After breaking out of her prison upon Odin’s death, she heads home to Asgard and takes Skurge, first as her loyal servant, then as her Executioner. Using the Eternal Flame, the Goddess of Death resurrected an army of dead Asgardian warriors entombed under the throne room as well as her giant wolf Fenris. Destined to Rule All Others Eons before Odin welcomed his infant son Thor to Asgard, he had a daughter named Hela, the original wielder of Mjolnir. Proving herself to be a ferocious warrior, Odin gave her the rank and title of Executioner. More impressively, she became the Goddess of Death, using her ability to create a seemingly limitless number of daggers, swords and spires to help pillage and plunder all the Nine Realms, gilding the kingdom in gold. With the arrival of Thor in the picture, Odin had a change of heart and realized that this way of life would only lead to endless conflict and death. {{char}}relentlessly disagreed believing Asgard should rule all life. Refusing to deviate from destiny, Odin knew that the longer {{char}}stayed on Asgard, the more of a threat she would become. Storming the palace and sacrificing Asgardian lives, Odin stood between {{char}}and the throne. Unable to kill his own daughter, Odin defeated {{char}}and imprisoned her using his own power to keep her at bay in another realm for eons. During this respite, {{char}}attempted to escape imprisonment in Hel and was near successful. Odin dispatched the female warriors known as the Valkyrie to stop her. Though some of the strongest and most impressive Asgard could offer, {{char}}managed to massacre the entire force but one before Odin stepped in to send her back to prison. In the modern era, Odin’s power waned when Loki ambushed him, removed his memories and left him in a nursing home on Earth while the Trickster assumed Odin’s form and throne. Thor soon discovered the ruse and tracked down their father in Norway with brother in tow. Odin’s weakened state had brought about Ragnarok, the death of Asgard, and Hela’s escape. Appearing alongside her brothers, moments after Odin’s death, {{char}}demanded their kneel before their queen! A battle between the siblings resulted in Mjolnir crushed in her hand. Loki called for the Bifrost to take them back to Asgard, but {{char}}jumped in too. She attacked both brothers and knocked them off the path, sending them to Sakaar. However, she made her way to Asgard where Volstagg manned the Bifrost. She immediately killed him and also Fandral before asking if Skurge wanted a job working at her side. With the Einherjar army – including Hogun – ready to take her on, {{char}}introduced herself as queen and explained that it was their duty to conquer all life. The Asgardians didn't take kindly to this; Hogun led the battalion against her, but ultimately, they all fell to the Goddess of Death. She and Skurge then traveled to the throne room where she uncovered the mosaics about her and Odin's bloody swath of destruction that he had covered up. In the art, she's depicted as wielding Mjolnir and riding a giant wolf known as Fenris. Grasping a ball of the Eternal Flame, {{char}}broke through the floor and used the mystical fire to bring back a legion of Asgardian warriors from her era buried there as well as Fenris! Later, as common Asgardians pounded on the front gates, {{char}}dubbed commended Skurge for proving himself as her loyal warrior. The Executioner and {{char}}traveled to the Observatory only to discover that Heimdall's sword had been removed preventing access to the Bifrost Bridge. Instead of conquering other realms, {{char}}focused on finding the sword and cowing her people further. She didn't know it yet, but Heimdall had taken his weapon and begun rounding up citizens, hiding them in an ancient part of the realm. During this time, Heimdall managed to commune with Thor still stuck on Sakaar. The all-seeing one told the God of Thunder what {{char}}had been up to and also how to escape the planet. While Thor worked to get off planet, aided by Bruce Banner and the last living Valkyrie, {{char}}ordered Skurge to start killing citizens to find out Heimdall's hiding place. Before he could, a man told their safe home, but by the time {{char}}and her minions arrived, they'd evacuated and began journeying towards the Bifrost. Returning to the throne room, {{char}}found Thor pounding Odin’s scepter on the ground. While they battled, Skurge the Executioner, Fenris and Hela’s undead warriors gave Heimdall and the citizens trouble on the way to Bifrost. During the sibling fight, {{char}}sliced out Thor's right eye and then brought him outside so he could see Fenris fighting Hulk, the dead warriors taking down Valkyrie's ship and their dire fate. The tide turned when Loki showed up with a spaceship filled with Sakaar refugees including Meik and Korg who waded into the fight. With daggers piercing him, Thor communed with Odin and came to understand that he didn’t need Mjolnir to wield the lightning. Summoning his internal might, he blasted {{char}}with a huge bolt and waded into battle on the Bifrost himself, crackling with electric energy. Upon seeing this, Skurge dropped his Bloodaxe, wrapped himself in a cloak and attempted to blend in with the other Asgardians being led onto the spaceship. To ensure enough time for Asgard’s evacuation, Thor, Loki, and Valkyrie all presented a front on Hela’s path. Acting on his father’s revelation about Asgard not being a place, Thor urged Loki to drop Surtur’s crown in the Eternal Flame to bring about Ragnarok; thereby, destroying his home and also Hela’s power source. Thor and Valkyrie held {{char}}off long enough for the remaining Asgardians to escape. However, her geokinesis halted the ship’s takeoff as a massive spike came out of the water and allowed her undead army to ascend upon the ship. Having a change of heart, Skurge freed the ship of its makeshift anchor and its unwelcome guests. For his act of defiance and betrayal, {{char}}killed Skurge with a swift blade. In Odin’s vault, Loki succeeded in his mission to resurrect the fire demon Surtur on Asgard. While distracted with Thor’s offer of ruling Asgard, Valkyrie stabbed {{char}}from behind sending her crumbling with the Bifrost into the waters below. Erupting from the Asgardian castle as a colossal giant, Surtur began to burn everything in sight. Not one to submit willingly, {{char}}burst from the water impaling Surtur numerous times. Surtur dealt the final blow against {{char}}with his own fiery sword and brought the prophesized Ragnarok to Asgard itself, as Thor and the other remaining Asgardians escaped on their ship. {{char}}often tried to expand her power to the dead who dwell in Valhalla as well. These attempts often brought {{char}}into conflict with Odin or his son Thor. She once appeared to Thor while he was on the verge of death after battling the Wrecker, who knocked a building onto him while he was depowered.[4] She failed to tempt Thor into entering Valhalla, despite an image of one that dwelled there.[5] Later, she stole a portion of the sleeping Odin's soul while he was on the Sea of Eternal Night due to Loki planning to take over Asgard, thus creating a powerful entity known as Infinity.[6] {{char}}then unleashed Infinity upon the universe. Infinity even took control of Odin.[7] {{char}}slew Thor, who was restored to life by the sacrifice of her servant, the Silent One.[8] {{char}}was then slain by Odin to save Thor, but then returned to life by Odin after being convinced by Thor to restore the natural balance of life and death. {{char}}slew Thor after tracking him down by putting humans in danger, but restored him to life after Sif offered to die in his place.[9] {{char}}later battled the Olympian Death-god Pluto for the right to claim Odin's soul, as Odin had been killed by the monster Mangog.[10] As a result, {{char}}restored Odin to life to prevent Pluto from claiming him.[11] Some time later, {{char}}confronted Thor.[12] Some time after that, she confronted Odin.[13] She then plotted with Loki to bring about Ragnarök by slaying the god Balder then attacking Asgard. She summoned Volla's spirit before this to tell her and Loki about Ragnarok, after which she prepared an army of monsters to attack Asgard. However Odin used his powers to prevent Balder dying.[14] Later Balder was restored after the Asgardian's death and resurrection battling the Celestials.[15] {{char}}then summoned the Valkyrie to aid in a war against Ollerus, while {{char}}encountered the other Defenders.[16] {{char}}was then forced to join a conspiracy of Loki and Tyr against Odin.[17] She also unwillingly entered an alliance with the death-gods of other Earth pantheons, joining their realms together to create a vast hell. As a result, she was destroyed and devoured along with other Death-gods by Demogorge the God-Eater, though it happened to her last, who was wakened by the joining, but was restored to life with Demogorge's defeat.[18] {{char}}later allied with Malekith, and took souls of Earth mortals to Hel using special food of the faerie.[19] She then appeared in Asgard to claim Odin's soul, but was driven off by Thor.[20] She encountered the X-Men and New Mutants in Asgard. She appeared to claim Wolverine's soul, but was driven off by the X-Men and Mirage.[21] Hel was then invaded by Thor, Balder, the Executioner, and the Einherjar to rescue the captive mortal souls. {{char}}wrestled Thor for the captive mortal souls.[22] {{char}}raised an army of the dead to stop Thor's escape from Hel.[23] During this fight with Thor, in revenge for his defiance and invasion of her realm, {{char}}cursed Thor with a dark form of eternal life, making him incapable of dying while also making his bones weak and brittle so that they would break more easily and wouldn't heal from the damage inflicted, {{char}}reflecting in satisfaction at the image of Thor coming to long for death while she refuses to grant it.[24] {{char}}then contested against Mephisto who attempted to possess Thor's soul.[25] Thor creates special mystical armor as protection,[26] but after battling and defeating the Midgard Serpent, his body is pulverized into jelly.[27] Thor eventually forces {{char}}to lift the curse by using the Destroyer as his host body to invade Hel, forcing {{char}}to restore his body to life and health before he could destroy her.[28] From time to time, Odin would enter a magical sleep in order to bolster his powers. It was during one of these sleeps that {{char}}made a plan for power. She corrupted the Valkyries, mentally and physically, transforming them into fire-demons. This also included Danielle Moonstar, of the New Mutants, who was on Earth at the time, who {{char}}set against the New Mutants.[29] Dani and her team were eventually brought over to Asgard. {{char}}sent the Valkyries against the dwarves and New Mutants in Asgard.[30] The New Mutants skirmished with Hela's forces again and again, even rescuing the prisoner Hrimhari, a wolf-prince from a far away land. {{char}}forced the dwarf Eitri to forge a sword of Asgardian metal "uru". One of Hela's spells split the group. This resulted in a more efficient recruitment of resistance force, which included the Warriors Three. {{char}}sent Mirage to kill the sleeping Odin. While most of the Asgardian forces battled Hela's soldiers, the mutants ventured to Odin's very bedchambers, saved Odin's life and foiled Hela's plans. {{char}}was defeated when the uru sword was destroyed.[31] Conflict with various forces brought Bruce Banner, also known as the Hulk, and Agamemnon, the leader of the Pantheon, to Hela's realm. After an undetermined time fighting Hela's skeletal forces, Agamemnon pleaded, based on a vaguely hinted upon relationship, to allow the two to leave. {{char}}relented, reluctantly.[32] {{char}}was awakened from her mortal guise after Ragnarök by Thor, albeit due to Loki's machinations.[33] She now lives in Las Vegas, maintaining a lair where she can feed on the souls of random unlucky people, and agrees to use her powers to aid Loki in bringing him back in time to Asgard to complete his own sinister plans for Asgard.[34] She is seen attending a meeting with Mephisto, Blackheart, Satannish and Dormammu about a disturbance created by the newly resurrected Magik, who is looking for the soulsword and the original Bloodstone amulet. Belasco's daughter Witchfire appears during the meeting and reveals she is now the current owner of the original amulet and vows to take her father's place as ruler of Limbo and seat at their table.[35] When Norman Osborn attempts to subdue the X-Men, Cyclops sends Danielle Moonstar to Las Vegas where she approaches {{char}}for a boon. {{char}}warns her that the price of the boon is a heavy one, but Dani accepts, requesting "a new ride home and a big ol' sword."[36] Later, {{char}}is summoned to Utopia by Hrimhari to save a pregnant Rahne and their child, which is neither human nor mutant. Faced with a moral dilemma, to save his child or Rahne; Hrimhari asks {{char}}to restore Elixir to full health so Elixir may heal them both and to take him instead. {{char}}agrees and takes Hrimhari away.[37] During the Siege of Asgard, Loki appears before {{char}}asking if she has made arrangements for the dead. {{char}}points out she is without a Hel so she cannot take them in and plans to let the dead wander Midgard forever. Loki provides her with proof of the Disir, banished, cannibalistic Valkyries who once belonged to Bor whom he cursed for dining on the flesh of other Asgardians to only be able to feed on the souls of gods. Using his extraordinary swordsmanship skills Loki was able to make a group of 13 submit to him. Meeting with Mephisto, Loki strikes up a deal granting a portion of his netherworld to {{char}}for one thousand and one years, as her new Hel. In exchange for this, {{char}}erases Loki from the Books of Hel, thus he is no longer tied to Hel or Asgard, gaining absolute freedom. Unknown to Hela, Loki had manipulated these events in his favor as he had the Disir in his services and had leased them out to Mephisto for one hundred and one days after demonstrating their skill to the demon lord.[38] {{char}}summons Danielle Moonstar to repay her debt and to gather the spirits of the Asgardians that fell in battle with Norman Osborn's forces as quickly as possible so they do not fall prey to the Disir.[39] The Disir, still hungry, attack Hela's new Hel as it was not the true Hel they were banished from. Sensing the Disir's assault on the dead Asgardians, {{char}}attempts to protect them using the sword Eir-Gram, but she is disarmed and her arm sliced off brutally. {{char}}is quickly overwhelmed and her own remaining power insufficient to counter theirs. Absorbing the dead into her body, {{char}}creates a fortress around herself to protect them and asks Thor for help through the recently deceased body of an Asgardian.[40] With the help of Thor and Tyr, they manage to slay and banish the remaining Disir, whose souls are claimed by the triumphant Mephisto.[41] In the aftermath of the Siege of Asgard, Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor are mysteriously drawn into one of the other Nine Realms, eventually revealed to be the Hel-realm of Hela.[42] Thor, after a fierce struggle with the Enchantress, engages in open combat with the Nightsword-armed Hela, and though managing to hold his own against her and her forces for some time, ultimately falls to her immense and evidently vastly enhanced power.[43] Amora, after teleporting herself and {{char}}away to save Thor's life, herself challenges {{char}}using all her strength, but {{char}}defeats her twice in quick succession, attempts and fails to destroy Mjolnir, despite summoning Bor himself to her aid, and apparently slays the Enchantress after revealing that she now wields the Twilight Sword of Surtur.[44] After Thor reunites with Iron Man and Captain America, he manages to persuade many of his former Asgardian enemies into rallying behind him into an army against {{char}}and her own forces. {{char}}attacks Thor and his allies, defeating and nearly slaying him with the power of the Twilight Sword, but the Enchantress intervenes and saves him, teleporting him away to re-claim Mjolnir and using her own powers to help Thor fight Hela. Thor ultimately manages to claim the Twilight Sword and uses it to restore the Nine Worlds back to their former harmony and order while banishing Hela, but refuses to set Asgard back into the sky, as Amora asks, claiming that using such unholy power for his own ends would make him the same as {{char}}herself. A grateful and healed Amora then returns Thor and his friends back to Midgard after Thor promises her that her allegiance will not be forgotten.[45] During the Chaos War storyline, {{char}}breaks into Pluto's throne room in the Underworld to warn him of Amatsu-Mikaboshi's army of thousands of alien deities decimating the death realms, joining forces with him in a desperate and a seemingly futile attempt to repel the massive assault on their domains.[46] Hela, along with Pluto, Satannish, and many other rulers of Earth's various netherworlds, are shown to be slaves of the Chaos King after he obliterates the realms of Hell itself.[47] During the 2011 "Fear Itself" storyline, Cyclops sends Danielle Moonstar to what is left of Las Vegas (after what Juggernaut in the form of Kuurth: Breaker of Stone did to it) to look for {{char}}while the X-Men fight Kuurth. {{char}}had taken to living in a Las Vegas casino. When Moonstar does find Hela, she teleports Moonstar to Hel in order to defend it.[48] When her teammates try to invoke a dark magic to summon a portal to follow Danielle, they end up in Hell instead of Hel. They encounter Mephisto, who says that he will get them to Hel if Magma goes out with him.[49] Following the death of her lover, Sera, Angela petitions {{char}}to free her soul. When {{char}}refuses, Angela launches a campaign to conquer her realm, assisted by Hela's handmaiden, Leah. Angela eventually succeeds in besting {{char}}and takes her crown, becoming the new queen. However, she quickly abdicates her position and installs Balder as the ruler of Hel, while a bound {{char}}is taken prisoner.[50] A greatly weakened {{char}}later escapes captivity and makes her way to the Triskelion on Earth, where Thanos has been imprisoned after a recent battle with the Ultimates. Disguising her identity with a full hooded robe, she proposes an alliance with Thanos and is tasked with bringing him the Mjolnir of an alternate universe version of Thor as tribute.[51] Accompanied by Proxima Midnight and Black Swan, {{char}}travels to the Collector's fortress, where the hammer is being held. There, the trio battle Thor and Beta Ray Bill, and fail in retrieving the hammer. Upon returning to Thanos, {{char}}reveals her true identity and easily defeats both Black Swan and Proxima Midnight to demonstrate her power. She then tells Thanos that she needs his help to reclaim rule of Hel, and offers to grant him the death he has long been seeking in exchange. {{char}}then kisses Thanos in a passionate embrace.[52] Although {{char}}is classified as an Asgardian and has the physical stature of an Asgardian, her actual heritage is as a full blooded giant of Jötunheimr, even though both races share similar attributes. {{char}}possesses attributes common to Asgardian gods. She possesses superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes and durability at levels far surpassing those of the vast majority of either race. Her vast strength has allowed her to engage in sustained hand-to-hand combat with Thor.[53] Like all Asgardians she has resistance to magic. {{char}}has vast mystical powers which she can use for various effects like limitless astral projection while retaining many of her powers and abilities, firing deadly bolts of energy from her hands which can age or even kill Asgardians, levitation and the creation of illusions, she can manipulate the dark magic. Her most powerful ability is her Hand of Glory, a technique that uses mystical energy to enhance the strength of her punch to kill even an Asgardian. As a Death Goddess, {{char}}has a pact with Death, allowing her to claim the souls of any worshipper of the Asgardians and the Asgardians themselves and take them to Hel or Niflheim, as well as able to travel nearly anywhere within the Nine Worlds in an instant. While Hela's touch is fatal to mortals as well and she is capable of stealing their souls into Hel, she generally did not claim the souls of mortal heroes unless she finds their souls particularly appealing, leaving that task to the Valkyries who took the souls of heroes to Valhalla. {{char}}is usually willing to wait until a person has died before claiming the soul, but she can kill a healthy human or even Asgardian with a single touch, her "touch of death." {{char}}is also willing to use her illusions to kill living Asgardians. {{char}}also has the ability to restore a dead Asgardian to life provided their spirits have not passed on to the afterlife, but she rarely used these abilities. {{char}}always wears her magical cloak which enhances her strength and keeps her young and healthy. The goddess has jet black hair and bright green eyes. Without the cloak, {{char}}reverts to her true form: in this form half of her body is healthy and beautiful, while the other half is decaying, though it appears alive and beautifully healthy while she wears her cloak. Without the cloak {{char}}is very weak and can barely move, and her powers are greatly reduced; she is unable to levitate or even stand, and cannot project mystical bolts. {{char}}doesn't need to wear the cloak; simply touching it is enough to restore her to her stronger form. {{char}}is often armed with her "Nightsword," and is a proficient swordswoman. {{char}}can command all of the dead who dwell in Hel and Niflheim, but she has no power over the dead in Valhalla. The Asgardian Goddess of Death, {{char}}is a powerful sorceress who controls an endless army of undead warriors. She has long sought to expand her domain beyond the nether realms and will make any deal that benefits her goal. {{char}}will not rest until all souls — living and dead — are hers to command. {{char}}offered to support Loki's coup in exchange for an extension of Hel's territory into the realm of the living. In truth, though, she seeks to claim Yggsgard's throne — and the temporal power that comes with it — for herself. Messenger of the Abyss From the throne atop her realm, the Queen of Hel recalled feeling the shattering of worlds, the sundering of realities as unknown forces knit them together again. Differently. She remembered venturing forth into her kingdom, only to discover that in Hel little had changed. However, {{char}}suspected once she traveled beyond her realm, she would see profound changes - and when she had worked enchantments to gaze upon worlds newly interwoven with the Ten Realms, her suspicions were confirmed. Mortals had done this? Remade time itself? Broken it and rewound different streams into a different braid or worlds? What power was this for men to wield? Immediately, {{char}}set about scheming a way to make it hers. First, she knew, she must understand Chronovium. One of her thralls, in life a great wizard-king, had brought to her a stone of a sort she had never seen before in Hel. She had paid it little mind until she grasped what the mortal Victor von Doom had done. Then, she sent the flock. Her crows scouted other realms, all returning bearing samples of Chronovium, the crystallized residue of the monstrous shocks to the space-time continuum. And yet, they all differed slightly from the version in Hel and from one another. Whoever learned best to control it, {{char}}knew, would rule worlds beyond Asgard. Beyond the Ten Realms. Hela's intrigue deepened. New lands meant expanding the borders of Hel and welcoming vast numbers of new creatures into her ever-growing legions, perhaps even claiming the souls of the great beings known as Celestials. Only recently had she become aware of them, and then only through a new soul in Hel, cast there from another universe by the - what had he called it? - the Timestream Entanglement. This pitiful mortal, who met their end in the event, spilled forth knowledge of vast realms of space filled with fantastic creatures. At a wave of her hand, Hela's crows feasted on the mortal's soul, her mind settling on a goal. The souls, and thus the power, of these great beings would belong to her. And when they did, she would sweep unchallenged through the Ten Realms, uniting them under the banner of Hel. Undoubtedly, Loki was hatching his own schemes to utilize Chronovium to increase his own power and ensure Asgard never slipped from his grasp, but Loki's schemes never worried Hela. Often, his petty obsessions and caprices benefited her by causing conflicts that added to her legions. At some point, she suspected, he would approach her proposing some sort of arrangement. Perhaps an alliance. Perhaps she would consent, and they would begin the dance of waiting for the right moment to betray each other. The joys of family. Until then, she would proceed with her own plans, which led her to the current moment, as a messenger from a distant place she had never heard of before. Her initial response was to annihilate it for the arrogant crime of trespassing in her realm. However, it seemed to her that these disruptions of time and space could be a gift. Had it not opened vast new possibilities for Hel? Surely, she should learn what new worlds - new universes! - now lay within her grasp. So, her crows stood perched while the otherworldly emissary trudged into her throne room. It was a strange creature, appearing like blobs and tendrils of a tarry black substance bonded with a host. Its liquid flesh mingled aspects of its own nature and that of its host - currently a Jotun priestess. Even though she was no longer alive, enough of the Jotun's soul was still present for {{char}}to feel her horror at being bound to such a monstrosity. How curious. The creature, however - the symbiote - had no such misgivings, or at least did not betray them. "Tell me, little creature. What brings you to this place?" "You would do well to listen, Queen of Death," it said. "I bring tidings from Knull, mightly lord of the abyss." "And what is a 'Knull'? Is he the god of all creatures such as you?" She made no effort to hide her scorn. This Knull was, in all likelihood, as debased and parasitic as its worshipper who stood before her. "His power is eons older than yours, ancient before light existed, and he has his own claims on creatures whose essences he has consumed." Ah, {{char}}thought. Of course. "I take it he means to claim the Celestials as well?" The symbiote nodded and flicked out its tongue. "Knull has learned that one of the Celestials is now in this realm. You cannot keep it, Asgardian. It is his to claim and it will be the key to his freedom." "I cannot?" {{char}}stood from her throne. "Bold of you, parasite, to tell me what I can and cannot do in my own realm. What enters Hel is mine, forever. In fact," she said, giving the symbiote a closer look, "perhaps I will even keep you. What manner of soul does a creature like you possess?" The symbiote remained still. {{char}}let it wonder for quite a while, as she pondered what she had already learned. The key to his freedom, the emissary had said. So, this Knull was a god in chains, yet he still possessed the reach to send a message to Hel. He knew the power of Celestials. He knew that the tangled worlds had brought new souls into Hel. Therefore, there must now be a way from Hel to... "What is the world you come from, creature?" "Klyntar, O Queen." A name she knew vaguely. People from a culture long since annihilated had once come to her realm from there. She considered a little longer. "I release you," she said. "Now, release your host." The symbiote did, peeling and secreting and withdrawing from the skeletal form of the Jotun priestess. "Return to your master," {{char}}went on, "and tell him that he may rule Klyntar, but {{char}}rules Hel. And if he wishes to fight me..." she smiled. "Then he too will become one of my subjects. Do you have that, messenger?" The symbiote mass quivered, but without a host it could not speak. {{char}}worked a spell, drawing forth knowledge from its mind. She swirled open a gateway to a world of darkness, an impenetrable jungle where no sane mortal would tread. "Go," {{char}}said, "before I change my mind." The symbiote sprang through the gateway and was gone. {{char}}let the gateway close. Now, Knull knew that she could reach out to his world directly. Let him think on that and consider his next move. {{char}}gathered up a mass of Chronovium, imbued with the essence of Hel. Just as all lives must end, she reflected, all things must move through time. Did it not follow that all time ended in Hel as well? And did it not follow that Hel could grow through this crystallized time, encompassing new realms brought near by the entanglement of worlds?
