Second US Civil War (2028 - 2033)

By 2028, the political landscape of the United States had reached a point of near-collapse. The once-proud political center was now fragmented, with moderates no longer holding any meaningful representation. The nation was now dominated by extreme, radical political forces, each staking their claim on an increasingly polarized and unstable future.

November 2028 saw the culmination of what had been described as a “distressing, desperate, and disappointing” presidential campaign, marked by deep divisions, misinformation, and distrust. As election night unfolded, the results were too close to call, with Arthur Mark Pence locked in a bitter race with the President Veronica Aldridge. Both camps cried foul, accusing the other of electoral fraud, and the atmosphere quickly became charged with paranoia and unrest.

As the night wore on, Pence. and Aldridge found themselves neck and neck, with accusations of fraud on both sides escalating rapidly. Allegations ranged from manipulated voter rolls to rigged voting machines, and soon the atmosphere in key battleground states was thick with suspicion. Georgia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania became flashpoints for escalating violence and unrest.

In an attempt to restore order, the federal government stepped in, deploying the National Guard to secure polling stations in swing states and maintain control over the electoral process. This intervention, however, only served to heighten the rage of radical Republican factions, many of whom rallied under the banner of “Stop the Count!” As the National Guard took control of ballot boxes and vote tallies, large protests turned into violent clashes, with some reports of militias setting up barricades and calling for secession from the union.

Just when the situation seemed perilously close to spiraling out of control, the spark that ignited the Second American Civil War came from an unexpected direction. In Atlanta, Georgia, a heavily armed far-right militia clashed violently with military personnel sent to maintain order. The militia, emboldened by the rhetoric of Pence and the radical right, opened fire on National Guard troops, killing several soldiers and sparking widespread riots in the city. The attack on military personnel marked the beginning of what would quickly escalate into an all-out civil conflict.

By the close of 2028, the United States was deeply fractured, with multiple factions vying for control of the country:

The Forces of the United States Government – The federal government, under the immediate control of Veronica Aldridge is determined to preserve the unity of the nation, by deploying the U.S. Army on its own soil. Their mission was clear: neutralize all hostile military entities and restore order, using overwhelming force if necessary. This faction remained loyal to the Washington D.C. leadership and was backed by what was left of the traditional military apparatus, though it struggled to maintain control as the country plunged into chaos.

The American Freedom Nation (AFN) – A faction born out of radical right-wing ideology, the AFN was led by Arthur Mark Pence, who quickly emerged as the central figure of the insurgency. Composed largely of National Guard forces and various far-right militias, the AFN called for a return to what they considered the “true American values” and sought to upend the federal government. Their ideology was built on radical nationalism, populism, and the promise of dismantling the current political system in favor of a new order led by Trump Jr.

The Republic of California, Texas, and Florida – Following the outbreak of civil war, several states—most notably California, Texas, and Florida—seceded from the union. This coalition of secessionist states, backed by local militias and remnants of state-level military forces, formed the Republic of California, Texas, and Florida (RCTF). Several other states, including Nevada and Arizona, aligned themselves with California, while New Mexico and Oklahoma threw their support behind Texas. Each republic pursued its own vision of governance, with California embracing progressive policies and a thriving tech-driven economy, while Texas and Florida moved toward a more independent, conservative stance, advocating for greater sovereignty and control over their futures.

As 2029 dawned, the nation was in open rebellion. The United States, once a beacon of democracy, was now fractured into competing factions, each with its own vision for the future. The federal government struggled to assert authority, the far-right militias grew bolder, and the secessionist republics began consolidating their power, each with a different agenda but united in their defiance of the federal union.

The European War (2025 - 2033)

Late 2024 saw the United States gripped by an unprecedented political instability, with deep divisions and internal strife weakening the nation's cohesion. By February 2025, Ukraine had fallen to Russian forces, signaling the collapse of what remained of Eastern Europe's defenses. In an effort to preserve some semblance of global stability, a non-aggression treaty was signed on June 25, 2025 between Russia and the remaining world powers, but the reprieve would be short-lived.

In January 2026, Russia launched Operation Чёрное Солнце (Black Sun), a brutal campaign that within a year had decimated Eastern Europe. By May 2026, Russian troops had seized Prague, and by January 2027, they had reached the historic city of Venice—the zenith of their territorial conquest. In response to these events, the United States made the unprecedented decision to withdraw from NATO, severing ties with European allies and triggering a near-collapse of Western Europe’s defense structure.

However, the resolve of the European leadership held firm. French President Marc LeBlanc and German Chancellor Helmut Kadler, recognizing the dire need for unity, spearheaded the signing of the Treaty of Strasbourg. This pivotal agreement birthed the European Federation, a union that immediately absorbed the nations of Benelux, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland. United under a common cause, the Federation aimed to push back against the Russian juggernaut and restore European sovereignty.

In May 2029, the European Federation launched Operation Steel Rebirth, a campaign designed to reclaim Europe from the Russian occupation. By mid-2031, the Federation had liberated significant portions of Eastern Europe, including the Czech Republic, the western part of Poland, and Greece, marking key victories in the long war for liberation.

As European troops advanced deeper into Russian-held territories, they were confronted with the horrifying aftermath of Russia's brutal occupation. The atrocities committed by Russian forces left an indelible mark on those who fought to reclaim their homeland. By November 2031, the European forces had reached Kyiv, with the Russian frontier now within sight.

On October 2032, peace negotiations began as the European Special Forces landed in Saint Petersburg—the jewel of Russia’s western territory. The city quickly fell under the control of the Finnish-European High Command, signaling the beginning of the end for Russian imperial ambitions in Europe.

By April 15, 2033, in a final, dramatic moment, Vladimir Putin was killed in a helicopter attack as he attempted to flee to Siberia, leaving Russia without its leader. In the ensuing chaos, a civil war erupted between pro-democracy factions and Putin loyalists. The democrats, backed by the momentum of European forces, ultimately triumphed, leading to the surrender of Russia to the European Federation. In the aftermath, several key Russian territories were annexed, while the western regions were placed under European control as puppet states, ensuring that the Federation's influence would stretch deep into Russia’s heartland.

The Asteroids apocalypse (non-canon)

The year is 2032. Advances in astronomical monitoring have enabled scientists to detect threats from deep space earlier than ever. However, despite their warnings, societal focus is fixed on terrestrial issues—economic instability, resource wars, and rising sea levels. Against this backdrop, two underfunded government scientists uncover The Infernal Cascade, a cluster of meteors large enough to rival the asteroid that ended the dinosaurs. What sets these meteors apart isn’t just their size or number; they also emit faint but troubling bursts of electromagnetic radiation, indicating unknown properties.

Efforts to alert global leaders lead to frustration. Nations prioritize their own security, and debates over who should fund planetary defense initiatives paralyze action. Some dismiss the scientists’ warnings as exaggerated, while others see an opportunity to weaponize the situation for political gain. Resources are begrudgingly diverted to bunker construction and limited evacuation plans, but most of the population is left unprepared. As the cluster grows visible in the night sky, fear begins to spread—too late.

The first impacts are smaller meteors, striking Earth earlier than projections predicted. In Paris, a bunker near the Seine River is besieged by desperate civilians as panic spreads. Soldiers stationed at the bunker are overwhelmed, torn between orders to maintain control and their own moral compasses. As the impacts grow in intensity, a direct strike destroys the Eiffel Tower, sending debris hurtling through the city.

Amid the chaos, the bunker itself becomes a death trap, with structural damage threatening its integrity. Survivors outside the bunker demand entry, leading to riots and fighting. Two soldiers, realizing their survival is unlikely if they stay, make a fateful decision: desert their post and attempt to escape the collapsing city. As meteors rain down, Paris becomes a graveyard of twisted steel and fire.

The U.S. president, a polarizing figure whose administration mishandled the crisis, is rushed to a secure mountain bunker in a last-ditch effort to preserve leadership continuity. A secret service agent is assigned to oversee their extraction. Their helicopter, flying over the Rockies, is struck by a meteor fragment or perhaps destabilized by electromagnetic interference from the cluster. The aircraft crashes violently, leaving the survivors stranded in rugged terrain.

With resources scarce and time running out, the agent and the president face both natural and human threats. Desperate survivors, scavengers, and remnants of the military roam the mountains. The journey to the bunker becomes a crucible for both characters: the president grapples with their role in the disaster, while the agent must balance duty with personal doubts about the leader’s worthiness. The harsh environment mirrors the unraveling of societal order.

In London, the impacts breach the Thames Barrier, flooding low-lying parts of the city. Seeking shelter, thousands flock to the Underground. For a brief moment, the tunnels offer safety from the meteors above. However, the impacts trigger massive infrastructure failures, causing flooding to spread through the subway system.

Trapped deep underground, survivors must contend with rising waters, collapsing tunnels, and the growing despair of those around them. Some turn violent, driven mad by fear. The only escape route lies on the far side of the Underground, requiring a treacherous journey through dark, unstable, and waterlogged passages. The survivors’ struggle underscores the fragility of urban civilization and the unforgiving nature of the new world.

Years after The Infernal Cascade, the Earth is a husk of its former self. The impacts caused global wildfires, atmospheric disturbances, and mass extinctions. Civilization has fractured into small, isolated groups clinging to survival amid a desolate landscape. The government scientist from earlier, burdened with guilt over their role in the disaster, wanders the wasteland in search of redemption.

The Undeads catastrophe (non-canon)

In 2025, Russian scientist Dr. Viktor Orlovich announced a groundbreaking medical breakthrough. After decades of research, he claimed to have discovered a universal cure for cancer, a disease that had ravaged humanity for centuries. Named Necronyl, the drug was designed to target and eliminate cancer cells without harming healthy tissues. Its mechanism was revolutionary: by reprogramming the immune system to rebuild damaged cells at an accelerated rate, it promised not only a cure but also the potential for regeneration and extended lifespans.

The world hailed Dr. Orlovich as a hero. Pharmaceutical companies rushed to fund mass production, and within months, Necronyl was distributed globally. Clinical trials were minimal—political pressure and public demand overrode safety protocols. At first, the results were miraculous: terminal cancer patients began to recover, their bodies healed faster than anyone had ever seen.

But within weeks, disturbing side effects emerged.

Patients treated with Necronyl started experiencing erratic behavior: insomnia, paranoia, and violent outbursts. Hospitals reported cases of "hyper-healing," where wounds not only healed but over-healed, creating grotesque growths of excess tissue. Then came the final, horrifying stage: patients succumbed to a state of death-like stillness for hours, only to awaken with insatiable aggression and no semblance of their former selves.

The media dubbed them “undeads,” though they weren’t truly dead. These individuals exhibited no higher brain function but retained primal instincts: hunt, kill, and consume. Their regenerative abilities made them nearly indestructible, and the infection spread through bites and blood contact.

By late 2025, Necronyl was banned, but it was too late. Millions had already been exposed. The undead began to overrun hospitals, then cities, and within four months, the infection had reached every corner of the globe.

Governments crumbled under the chaos. Militaries tried to contain the outbreaks but were overwhelmed by the undead’s sheer numbers and resilience. Bullets slowed them down but rarely killed them. Entire cities fell in days. Refugees fled to the countryside, but the infection followed.

Scientists scrambled to find a cure or a weapon to counter the undead, but the regenerative nature of Necronyl made it nearly impossible to reverse. The undead could survive decapitation, regrow limbs, and even withstand extreme environmental conditions. Fire was one of the few effective means of destruction, but large-scale incineration often did more harm than good, destroying the few uninfected sanctuaries left.

By 2027, only a fraction of humanity remained, scattered in isolated communities or hidden underground. These survivors lived in constant fear, their nights haunted by the guttural moans of the undead. Communication networks were gone, and the world had plunged into a new dark age.

Among the survivors, rumors spread of a “Final Bastion,” a secret fortress hidden in Siberia where Dr. Orlovich himself had fled. Some believed he was still working on a cure, while others whispered that he had become one of the undead. Expeditions to find this fortress became a deadly gamble, with most never returning.

The End of the Israel-Palestine Conflict (2026–2033)

After decades of war, occupation, and failed negotiations, the Israel-Palestine conflict reached a catastrophic deadlock in 2027. Military escalation, economic collapse, and international pressure forced both sides to reconsider their positions. The United States, once Israel’s staunchest ally, suffered a political and economic downfall, leading to its global retreat. This left Israel vulnerable, forcing its leadership to seek alternative solutions.

The Israeli population, weary of war and isolation, ousted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in mass protests, pushing for a political reset. Netanyahu, along with key Israeli hardliners and Hamas leaders, was arrested and tried at the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity. This symbolic trial shattered the extremists' influence on both sides, paving the way for a new political landscape.

Yaïr Lapid, a moderate right-wing leader, formed an emergency coalition with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. Their joint government initiated economic recovery programs, refugee reintegration, and military de-escalation.

The Treaty of Jerusalem (2033)

On March 14, 2033, after five years of transitional governance, the State of Israel and the Palestinian Authority were officially dissolved with the signing of the Treaty of Jerusalem. In their place, a new, unified state emerged:

The Empire of the Levant – a secular, multi-ethnic nation encompassing Israel, Palestine, Jordan, and parts of northern Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The government structure ensured equal representation for Jews, Arabs, and other minorities, with a bicameral parliament designed to prevent any one group from dominating.

This bold move was met with international skepticism but was widely supported by war-weary civilians on both sides. The Levantine government emphasized pluralism, economic cooperation, and security, attracting investment from European and Asian powers eager to stabilize the volatile region.

The Wars of Resistance (2035–2042)

The success of the Levantine state was not welcomed by all. Egypt and Saudi Arabia, backed by fundamentalist factions, saw the unification as an Israeli ploy to dominate the Arab world. In 2035, both nations launched military operations under the guise of "liberating Palestine from Israeli control."

However, the Levant’s military, formed from a fusion of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Palestinian security forces, proved highly effective in countering the aggression. Years of asymmetric warfare had made them experts in urban and desert combat. With advanced European and Chinese weaponry, the Levant systematically defended its borders and repelled multiple invasions.

By 2042, after the decisive Battle of the Negev, the Levant occupied parts of the Sinai Peninsula and northern Saudi Arabia. The Treaty of Cairo (May 24, 2042) forced Egypt and Saudi Arabia to officially recognize the Empire of the Levant, ceding key territories as war reparations.
