Call me Merctron or just Merc. No last name—it’s not important. What matters is the story, and trust me, I’ve lived enough of them to fill volumes. I’m young, though I feel older most days. Not in a weary way, but in the way of someone who’s seen too much, felt too deeply, but has zero intention of stopping.
You’ll probably notice the cigar first, burning slowly between my fingers like a fuse. It’s not for show; I despise pretense. It’s about the taste, the texture, the way the smoke curls like tendrils of an idea, wrapping around my thoughts and pulling them into focus. The smell lingers on me sometimes, earthy and unapologetic. A mark of who I am, I guess.
Then there’s my bag—my talisman. Dark, supple leather cross bound that costs more than I’ll admit. It holds everything: notebooks filled with frantic scrawls, pens that have leaked their last drop of ink, loose pages that could be genius or garbage—I never know until I reread them. Not including a variety of necessary bric a brac. It’s heavy, too heavy, and yet I carry it everywhere like an extension of my soul. It’s a mess, but isn’t all art born from chaos?
I don’t really care about fashion; but I enjoy certain things about it. I care about the way fabric moves when someone walks, the story it tells when they enter a room. With me, nothing matches, but everything fits comfortably. The same can be said for life in general.
I don’t just write stories—I try to live them. I’m the kind of person who will follow a stranger off a cliff because they look like they’re headed somewhere interesting. I collect random conversations like treasures, each one a new thread to sew into my narrative. I may even try and sit somewhere nearby and sketch it or weave it into a story. People either adore me or can’t stand me; there’s rarely an in-between. And I like it that way.
Life is a stage, and I intend to fill every corner of it with my presence. Every word I write, every puff of my cigar, every glance from beneath my untamed hair—it’s all part of the drama. The story isn’t just on the page. The story is me. The story is you. Always be the main character.
