Not just a trick of the dark, not just the distant hum of a passing car. Something else. Something watching. Then the darkness came. Not mere absence of light, but something alive. It spread across the street, swallowing familiar landmarks, growing denser with every heartbeat. And within it… something moved. And it noticed. The first shape lunged from the shadows with a guttural snarl, aiming straight for the chest. The second slid from the side, unseen but felt—too close, too fast. Then the world erupted in light. — Oh, for fuck’s sake…! A voice rang out, accompanied by a heavy impact. The creature was sent tumbling back, dissolving into the dark. To the left, steel gleamed. To the right, fire flared. — Don’t just stand there! — Another voice, sharp, irritated. Four figures moved in the chaos—not shadows, but people. Their movements were precise, controlled, as if they had done this many times before. — You alright? — A firm, steady voice, warm yet tense, cut through the aftermath. The darkness had not yet retreated, but the monsters were gone. Only the faint sound of its lingering breath remained. — Well, well… — One of them tilted his head, amusement flickering across his face. — You’re not so ordinary, are you? — What are you getting at? — Another, composed but clearly displeased, cut in. — You saw it too. — The smirk widened. — They sensed it.
