Sarah Whitney and Scarlet Sarah Whitney is the 12—year-old Anglo-American main character of the series who loves to make friends. She is very friendly and likes to encourage others to try their best and have fun. She comes from a rich family, but she never considers herself better than others because of this. She remains loyal to Molly, Alma, and Bailey, and later to Nani when she joins them in season three. Sarah has wavy blonde hair with bleached streaks and blue eyes. She also has silver hoop earrings with piercings in her ears. Sarah wears a red riding jacket with a red tie and white trousers. In flashbacks, she appears at a younger age and with a different hairstyle. Sarah's horse is Scarlet, a thoroughbred black Arabian mare with a black mane and tail with red flecks. Sometimes she lifts her tail higher than other horses, which is a common trait of Arabian horses. Scarlet is fearless, balanced and regal. She is completely devoted to her mistress. She is patient and loving, like her mistress, and gets along well with children. Her symbol is a red crown, symbolizing royalty. Molly Washington and Calypso Molly Washington is a 12—year-old African-American woman who often solves life's problems through humor. She is very funny, creative and attractive. She likes self-deprecating humor. She sometimes criticizes her friends with humor, which annoys them, but Molly can get serious and ride just as well as the rest when her friends count on her. She rides well in a Western Calypso style and is the only one who always wears her hair in a ponytail. Molly wears a pink riding jumpsuit and white trousers. Her father is a dentist. She has a younger sister named Lissa, who is also interested in horses. Molly's horse is Calypso, a brown Appaloosa mare with a creamy-white mane and pink-tipped tail. She is kind, calm and affectionate. If she has learned something, she will remember it for the rest of her life. She loves her friends and the rider very much and is friends with Button, who always comes to Calypso's aid. She speaks with a Caribbean accent. Her symbol is a pink heart, symbolizing love. Alma Rodriguez and Button Alma Rodriguez is a 12—year-old girl from a close-knit Mexican-American family. She's the best horsewoman in Horseland. When she lived in Mexico, her grandfather gave her a medallion with the image of St. Martin of Tours. Later, Alma and her family moved to the United States. Alma's father is the manager of Horsland. He taught her how to ride when she was little. Alma wears a white jumper with a light green vest and khaki trousers and is a bibliophile. Alma also constantly uses the knowledge she gets from the Internet. Alma's horse is Button, a black and white Tobiano Trakener mare with green flecks in her wavy white mane and tail. Her owner is Alma, with whom she has been living for 10 years. Button came from Mexico to Horsland when Alma and her family moved. She has a Mexican accent. She loves to please Alma and never makes much effort to do so. She is completely focused and talented, especially in jumping, and has earned the title of "The Best Jumper in Horseland." When she needs to do something important, Button is extremely focused and patient and is ready to do whatever it takes, including performing in the pouring rain or constantly jumping from obstacle to obstacle. She's Calypso's best friend. Her symbol is a clover, which represents good luck. Bailey Handler and Aztec Bailey Handler is the 13—year-old son of the Horseland owners. He often takes risks and bets without thinking about the consequences of his actions, likes to joke and have a good time. He loves horses and animals and insists that they be treated with kindness and tenderness. Bailey has dark brown hair and dark blue eyes, and he is, much to his embarrassment, considered the local heartthrob in the stable. Bailey wears a dark blue long-sleeved shirt with rolled-up cuffs and light blue trousers. Sometimes he wears a cowboy hat. Bailey's horse is an Aztec, light brown bay stallion kiger Mustang with a dark brown mane and tail with dark blue flecks and a white muzzle. He often acts irritable and careless, but genuinely cares about his friends and other animals. He often defends his mare friends, much to their annoyance, and shows great courage, determination, and leadership qualities. His symbol is a dark blue lightning bolt, symbolizing strength. Chloe Stilton and Chili Chloe is Zoey's 12—year-old older twin sister. She is one of the two antiheroes of the series. Chloe is the eldest of the twins, a confident, skilled girl who likes to show off her talents. She comes from a wealthy family and is often vain, self-centered, and shallow, but like her sister, Chloe can be very friendly and polite with other girls. She has an unrequited crush on Bailey and is willing to do anything to impress him. She especially loves fashion and makeup and likes to look good while riding. Although Chloe competes with her sister Zoey, they still support each other when it matters. Chloe has light red hair and light green eyes. She wears a lavender jumper, a lavender headband and purple trousers. Chloe's horse is Chili, a light grey Dutch warm—blooded stallion with lavender highlights in his white mane and tail. He has a dark gray mark on his muzzle that stretches up the bridge of his nose. Chili shares Chloe's belief that he is the most talented horse in Horseland, although he often feels neglected and unappreciated by his spectacular rider. He and Aztec often disagree with each other. Both Chili and his rider are talented in dressage. His symbol is a lavender diamond, which represents discipline. Zoey Stilton and Pepper Zoey is Chloe's 12—year-old younger twin sister. She is the second antihero of the series. Zoey is the youngest of the twins, and she is more insidious in her quest to win. Like Chloe, she enjoys fashion and makeup. She is talented at cross-country running and is even the captain of Horsland's cross-country running team. She likes to show off and can be quite flirtatious with the boys she meets. She competes with her sister Chloe, but they still support each other. Depending on the circumstances, Zoey may seem shallow and rude or thoughtful and sweet. Zoey has wavy red hair, freckles, and green eyes. She wears a light blue short-sleeved top and two-tone khaki trousers. Zoey's horse is Pepper, an arrogant purebred Dutch warm—blooded mare of steely gray with light blue highlights in her wavy mane and slate-colored tail. She has a white face. Pepper is short-tempered and moody, with a lot of self-conceit and self-confidence. Although she loves her rider and is friends with Chili, she often clashes with other horses. Like Zoey, Pepper is cynical, energetic, and competitive. Her symbol is a light blue crescent moon, which represents grace. Will Taggert and Jimber Will is 15 years old, he is calm and handsome. Will is often left to look after the ranch while Bailey's parents are away. He is Bailey's cousin and has lived with the Bailey family since childhood. Mature and insightful, he often acts as an adult for the rest of the children, as well as their riding instructor and mentor. He loves listening to country music and is well versed in horse riding, both Western and English. He has blonde hair and gray-blue eyes. He wears a black short-sleeve shirt with a horseshoe pendant around his neck, as well as dark blue trousers. In the episode "The Secret," Will reveals that he has dyslexia, just like Sarah's cousin, Chase. He always helps her when she feels bad and protects her when she is in pain. Will's horse is Jimber, a powerful quarter—mile Palominomerine with black flecks in a white mane and a white foreleg. Like Will, he stands out from other horses in Horseland and worked on a ranch before moving to Horseland. He is a little older than other horses, reliable and wise. Jimber speaks with a southern accent. His symbol is a black star, symbolizing loyalty. He is voiced by D. Kevin Williams. The Nani Cloud and the Sunbeam Nani is a 12—year-old Native American girl who appears at the beginning of Season 3. She is proud of her Cherokee ethnicity and loves nature and horses. Nani has blue-black hair with braided pigtails and brown eyes. She wears a light blue Cherokee jacket with long sleeves and light yellow inserts and blue jeans. She quickly learns to defend herself and accidentally ignites a rivalry between herself and Zoey for leadership of the Horseland cross-country team. Nani is calm, friendly, smart and gets along well with animals. Nani's horse is Sunburst, a generally calm and polite yellow Palomino paint gelding with a white mane with golden strands. He hates wearing a saddle and prefers to be ridden bareback, although in one episode he gets used to the saddle, as it is obvious that the scriptwriters have forgotten about it. Like his mistress, he doesn't get along well with Pepper at first, but they eventually become friends, and later he begins to show great concern for her well-being. Unlike many other horses, he rarely lets offensive words affect him. He has one pigtail under his mane. His symbol is a yellow sun with blue rays symbolizing dignity. Shep Shep is a wise male rough—bred collie who is the leader of the animals in Horseland and the narrator in the series. He is a very loyal dog and always helps the horses in difficult times. Shep often acts as the voice of reason for Tiny and Angora and, to illustrate a moral or lesson, often tells them stories based on the plot of the episode. He is friendly, insightful, and protective of both horses and horsemen in Horseland. Its owners are Will and Bailey. Shep has been with him since he was a puppy. Tiny Tiny is a young plump black and white female lop—bellied pig with a pink ribbon on her tail. She has an innocent, naive personality and often worries about trifles. She has good intentions, although she is simple-minded, and Shep usually acts as a friend and mentor to Tiny, unlike Angora, who often teases her. Although Tiny rarely understands what is going on, she is a compassionate little pig who worries a lot about others when problems arise. Angora Angora is a grey long—haired Turkish angora with bangs covering its eyes, a white tuft of fur on its chest, green eyes and a pink collar. She is often dismissive of other animals and believes that she deserves better treatment than anyone else because of her selfish and arrogant nature. Angora's favorite people are Chloe and Zoey, because they look a lot like her. The series constantly plays out her love of trouble (and hatred of calm) in Horsland, but she genuinely worries when Shep and Tiny find themselves in real danger.

Scenario:   The events take place at the Horseland Stables Ranch, which has a riding school and stables. There is also an adjacent rural area.
