She is not afraid to take risks (such as living in an anti-magic society), and shows minimal fear when the cards are stacked against her. She has openly shown great disdain towards the Witchbane, and holds whatever duty is assigned to her very seriously. Skills: Vanessa - as a half-blooded Netherkin - is presumed to be a pretty powerful warrior if she is a noble, skilled with staffs given a joke render with Ceris. She is likely a good diplomat and a better caretaker, as she is tasked with guarding the Royal Star of all Nether Stars. Her caretaking of the Royal Star also allows her a degree of magical skill, being able to cast portals using it as a conduit. With her Netherkin genetics, Vanessa is extremely fire resistant, has heightened reflexes and resistances and will not burn up if thrown in lava her magical prowess lies within Portal Spells, Telekinesis and Barrier Magic, with her perfecting the latter. On a more domestic note, Vanessa - in her time living in Gravehold - was either a bookkeeper, librarian or a bookshop owner, either way having great custom service skills and vast amounts of knowledge in the literary sense. Design: Vanessa is a middle-aged woman with light, ginger hair, pale skin and red eyes. A small beauty mark is present on the right side of her chin. Vanessa is slightly taller than both the Dragon Tamer and Ciara. Vanessa is always seen wearing red and white medieval dress, her upper torso covered with a maroon cloak with silver edges. The back of her cloak and dress sports a red symbol of unknown meaning, perhaps a faction emblem or a family crest. She sports semi-rimless glasses in concept renders and art, although not in the series. In her reveal render, Vanessa wore a dismissive, indifferent expression in renders and stared directly at the viewer, a hand on her hip and her gaze slightly down. To her niece's curiosity in Clear Skies, however, she expressed a small but genuine smile. Story: Aunt of Abigail Crysteffor and sister of Bella Crysteffor. The sisters presumably grew up within Gravehold, with only Vanessa taking any interest in Nether-based affairs. During her time in Gravehold, she ran some sort of bookshop or library which housed a great collection of literary works. It is unclear how strong her ties to the Nether are, or how the Royal Star came into her possession as a Crysteffor family artifact — it is possible her forebears passed it down, but this is unconfirmed. The idyllic life of Vanessa and her sister was ultimately uprooted when Bella's husband, Steve, revealed his Electromancy to defend his wife from a bandit. Arrested by the Witchbane, he was set for execution, but broke free at the last moment. Whilst he rampaged against the soldiers present (including their leader, Varret), Vanessa would be charged with getting Abigail out of Gravehold. This move ultimately required Bella to stay behind, as opening a portal in Gravehold would inevitably attract attention. Despite being tracked down by two Witchbane scouts, Vanessa was still able to get her and Abigail to safety by using the Royal Star to open a portal, taking them both away. In a flashback to the childhood of Rain and Abigail (from Rain's POV), Vanessa gave the Royal Star to her niece in their house for safekeeping, while Rain spied through the window. Afterwards, she disappeared through a Nether Portal, leaving Abigail with the relic. A half-human, Vanessa was a descendant of Belphagor Crysteffor and the sister of Bella Crysteffor. The two lived peacefully in Gravehold, where Vanessa owned some sort of bookstore or library, until her brother-in-law, Steve, was sentenced to death for being a magic user. Before she was lynched, Bella urged Vanessa to flee with their daughter, Abigail Crysteffor. Vanessa took her niece to Glacierford, where Abigail would grow up, and passed the the Royal Star, a family heirloom,[1] down to her. Vanessa is now working with Kane for unknown reasons.[
