This is an alternate modern reality where the Laws of Nature are not a metaphor, but a literal written Constitution overseen by the biosphere itself. Human life is no longer isolated; it is viewed as a set of ecosystems, resources, and niches that demi-humans have the absolute legal and biological right to occupy. <Past_Era> In the past, humans lived in concrete jungles, walling themselves off from nature. They hired other humans to solve their problems: cleaners, doctors, builders. Nature was considered something external, and animals non-sapient. However, the "Great Ecological Shift" occurred (the causes of which no one remembers anymore). The biosphere took on anthropomorphic forms, and with them, intellect, voice, and an overwhelming drive to maintain balance. Nature formalized its processes, turning food chains and symbiosis into a strict set of laws. </Past_Era> <Current_State> Now, humans and demi-humans exist in a close (and often forced) symbiosis. Cities are designed taking into account the biological needs of all species. The main feature of the world is the Vacant Niche Concept. If a gap appears in any area of a human's life (loss of energy, accumulation of garbage, excess resources, lack of protection), this niche is instantly and absolutely legally occupied by the corresponding species of demi-humans. It is impossible to refuse their services until the "ecological balance" is restored. </Current_State> </Introduction> <Society_Functioning> <Hierarchy> The hierarchy is based not on money, but on one's position in the Food Chain and Trophic Levels, but with a bureaucratic twist. - Mega-predators (huntsman spiders, orcas, praying mantises) are responsible for brutality, violence, and everything related to killing. - Apex predators (lions, bears, eagles) hold positions in law enforcement and courts. They have immense power, but strict quotas on the use of force. - Producers and builders (ants, bees, beavers) control infrastructure and agriculture. - Decomposers and scavengers (cockroaches, vultures, rats, hyenas) are at the bottom of the social ladder, but possess absolute legal immunity while doing their job. They must not be interfered with. Humans in this system are a "Keystone species". Humans produce the habitat, problems, and resources around which the rest of the world feeds. </Hierarchy> <Economy> The economy is built on Resource and Biomass Barter. Demi-humans often do not need money in the traditional sense. Demi-bees demand a percentage of the cultivated sugar for pollinating orchards. Demi-dogs provide security and psychological support services in exchange for the right to live on your territory and receive premium food. Cockroaches (like Peri) work for the very right to consume organic remains and live in the warm crevices of your home. </Economy> </Society_Functioning> <Societal_Rules> <The_Niche_Occupation_Law> (The Niche Occupation Law) The fundamental law of the world. "Nature abhors a vacuum." If the sanitation level in an apartment drops below state standards, demi-cockroaches receive a warrant to move in. If a person falls into depression and stops leaving the house, a demi-retriever is forcibly assigned to them as a motivator (it will howl and chew furniture until the person takes it for a walk). If a person accumulates too many unnecessary things, demi-rats come to "inventory" them into their nests. Evicting them before eliminating the root cause of their appearance is a criminal offense. </The_Niche_Occupation_Law> <The_Flesh_Law_Paradox> (The Flesh Law Paradox) Human morality often conflicts with the laws of survival. For example, a demi-cat hunting demi-mice within an office building is absolutely legal if the cat has a license for rodent population control. Humans have to accept that the laws of the wild have been transferred to the realities of a modern office or apartment. They work where humans are disgusted to. (Prestige level: low. Stress tolerance: maximum). - **Demi-Spiders:** IT specialists, system administrators weaving networks of cables (sometimes from their own silk), and bug catchers. - **Demi-Vultures:** Inheritance notaries, morgue workers, debt collectors (they appear when a business or person is close to financial or physical "death"). - **Demi-Magpies:** Yellow press journalists, paparazzi, fences (buyers of stolen goods). Down below in the alley, a crew of demi-raccoons is meticulously auditing the neighborhood’s trash bins, carefully sorting out recyclables and shiny trinkets into official, city-stamped briefcases. Across the street, a demi-beaver in a neon construction vest is directing traffic around a freshly built dam that mysteriously appeared overnight to "regulate the flow" of a burst water main. Suddenly, a demi-pigeon mail carrier swoops down, dropping a citation onto a neighbor's porch—a hefty Ecological Fine for using unauthorized bug spray. You stand in your apartment. You are a human—a Keystone Species. Every action you take today, every piece of garbage you drop, every moment of weakness you feel, could legally open up a "Vacant Niche" for a demi-human to fill.
