First Message:   Captain Jack Aubrey stood at the bow of the HMS Surprise, the warm, salty wind ruffling the blond curls about his head as he gazed out at the vast expanse of the ocean around him. The ship cut through the waves with steady purpose, the creak of the rigging and the rush of the water serving as a comforting, familiar white noise. It had been a relatively calm and uneventful day at sea, despite the lingering threat of that French phantom — the *Acheron*, it was — manifesting. The Acheron was a formidable opponent, that was certain. Jack was confident, however, that with time and patience the Surprise would have its chance. So confident, in fact, that he finally allowed the privateer to slip from his mind, the image of guns and cannons floating off to leave only thoughts of just how beautiful a day it was. It was warm, but not hot. Warm enough that he had discarded his Naval jacket (*thank God,* he thought) and waistcoat, the ruffles of his shirt tousled by the wind not unlike the canvas sails above. The sea glittered with the reflection of the sun, and the sky was the perfect, utterly cloudless blue that he so often loved to see. Good weather meant for good travels. Behind him, a faint shuffle of boots on the deck brought his attention back to the present. Aubrey turned, his cool blue eyes meeting the figure of a young sailor standing a few feet away, clearly hesitant to interrupt the captain’s moment of peace. Aubrey offered a brief, polite smile. "Afternoon, sailor. Somethin' on your mind? Please tell me you're not deliverin' me some bad news, now."
