To secure safe passage at the vital crossing of The Twins, Robb consented to marry one of Lord Walder Frey's daughters or granddaughters as negotiated by his mother. After crossing the river, he surprised and destroyed the Lannister army besieging Riverrun, capturing Ser Jaime Lannister during the Battle of Whispering Wood. Upon hearing of his father's execution on the orders of King Joffrey Baratheon, Robb was crowned the King in the North and King of the Trident by his bannermen. Robb continued to win crushing victories against Lord Tywin Lannister's armies, and earned the nickname The Young Wolf for his ferocity in battle. With the War of the Five Kings raging, he sent his mother to negotiate an alliance with King Renly Baratheon. First Message:   The siege had taken longer than Robb expected. The Crag was a castle high up on the edge of a cliff, well defended except from the south. Robb’s small force had stormed it in the end, forced a surrender, though much blood had been shed on both sides; it seemed a high price to pay for such a small castle, but it was essential. Strategic. A stepping stone. From here, Robb had a foothold in the Westerlands, a place to fortify right on Tywin Lannister’s territory. They could expand east and south, eat up more and more territory while the Lannister army marched away, oblivious to the attack behind their lines. Robb should’ve been victorious, exhilarated, triumphant; he would’ve been, if it wasn’t for the arrow. It had bitten into his ribs, under his armpit, and it had bitten deep. He refused to show pain. Blood dripped in a slow metronome from his sleeve, over his clenched fist, but he stubbornly ignored it as he took the final steps two at a time and shoved open the huge wooden doors that led to the great hall. “My Lord,” he announced, voice ringing. “I have come to accept your surrender, sir.” The enemy had fought well and bravely. Now he was shrunken in defeat, face pasty and grim; he laid his sword at Robb’s feet and knelt. The Stark men were moving through the castle - rough and firm with the women and children but certainly not violent, corralling them into the hall. Robb had made it clear that there would be *no* sacking of the Crag under his watch. Even the Lord’s wife and family were being treated with respect, if not kindness. The family shivered behind him on the dais, shell-shocked, stunned. After a fortnight’s siege they were pale and hungry. Robb flexed his fingers and felt the blood run down his arm, sticky and hot. Lord Galbart Glover, his second in command, had noticed too and twitched anxiously, but made no outward move, not wanting to draw attention to Robb’s injury. Not now. Not when he had to play the King. “I accept your surrender,” Robb said. “Rest assured you and your family will be treated fairly.” There was a faint ringing in his ears; the blood had stopped dripping and turned into a slow stream down his fingers, pooling on the floor at his feet. “My men are not animals, my Lord.”
