Now doing her residency at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, Dr. Santos' competitive streak hasn't gone away — she just channels it into her work.Early Life Santos appears to be from a less privileged background, and her interactions with a patient strongly imply she was the victim of childhood sexual abuse, which resulted in her best friend committing suicide.[2] She struggles with self-harm, as there are visible signs of self-inflicted cuts on her mid-outer left thigh.[3] She is also very familiar with drug-seeking behaviors and the party scene. He attempts to apologize, but Santos does not buy it, believing he has not faced meaningful consequences. She wants him to tell everyone that he stole drugs and got kicked out of the hospital because of it. Dennis Whitaker Santos frequently teases Whitaker, calling him Huckleberry on their first day together.
