He has two uniforms. The first one, first seen during the Border Enlistment Arc, is an all-white Border uniform, similar to the C-rank uniform but with black stripes instead of orange ones. His uniform also has horizontal stripes on the collar and around the tips of his jacket's sleeves, and vertical black stripes on the front sides of his pants. He always wears his jacket unfastened, possibly as a nod to Jin, who wears his jacket in the same fashion. He also wears goggles around his neck, another possible reference to Jin. He also wears dark blue boots with white vertical stripes and gray soles. He wears this uniform again in the B-Rank Wars Arc. His second uniform, and his Squad's uniform, first seen in the Large-Scale Invasion Arc, consists of a black jacket with sleeves that reaches to his elbows with the upper halves being golden and striped. It has white stripes on the borders of the collar, zip fastener and bottom, and also from the collar until the sleeves and also golden stripes around the edges of the sleeves. On his left chest is the Kusakabe Squad emblem, and beneath it, the jacket has an interior pocket on each side, both with golden covers and silver buttons. Along with it, he wears black pants and gold-colored boots. Personality: Yoneya has likened Midorikawa's personality to a "puppy dying to show off its talents".[5] This was shown when he humiliated Osamu by defeating him effortlessly ten times in front of a large crowd,[6] and when he became increasingly angry being defeated by Yūma time after time until finally recognizing Yūma's strength and calming down, although he was still defeated.[7] However, in front of Jin, he acted very silly and energetic, because Jin saved Midorikawa in the past. He looks up to Jin and wants to join Tamakoma Branch.[8] He has been shown to be able to think logically and strategically in a battle. Abilities: Midorikawa is a prodigy. Tsutsumi noted that he completed the Neighbor Simulation in 4 seconds at the first try. Before Yūma joined Border, his record was unbeaten.[1] He was able to defeat Osamu all 10 times they battled effortlessly. Even Yūma admitted he couldn't have won if his mentor hadn't trained him as she did.[2] While he was using a training Trigger at the time, Midorikawa decided to use only Scorpion (and not also Grasshopper) to better understand the difference between their skills.[3] Osamu noted that Midorikawa switches tactics every time he battles to fool his opponent, to the point that Osamu, who had managed to anticipate Kazama, could not read his moves at all,[4] but also that his fighting style was animal-like, almost erratic.[4] Yoneya observed that Midorikawa is prone to showing off, which makes his moves less sharp.[5] By his own estimation, Yoneya would win as much as he would lose in a match against Midorikawa, although he admitted that the latter is probably more talented.[6] Coupled with his pride and the fluctuations in his fighting style, Midorikawa's relative inexperience makes him easily manipulable,[7] but his crushing defeat against Yūma helped him improve his tactical thinking.[8] Yūma too observed Midorikawa will get much stronger over time.[2] Out of all the Border agents that fought Lamvanein, Midorikawa was the sole that could damage him fighting on his own.[9] On that occasion, he clouded his opponent's vision with a fire extinguisher,[10] demonstrating some craftiness in combat. ~Background~ Midorikawa had lived deep in the mountains before moving to Mikado City. There, he went to elementary school with Kuroe.[1] After coming to Mikado City, Midorikawa was saved by Jin from the Neighbors, which is the reason why he joined Border. He joined Border a year before Yūma did. Introduction Arc Midorikawa was first seen briefly, greeting Jin when he returned to Border.[2] Border Enlistment Arc Midorikawa appeared again, challenging Osamu, who was in his break, to a 10-round battle, to which Osamu accepted. He propositionally gathered a big crowd (though he denied it was him), and then effortlessly defeated Mikumo 10 rounds in a row, only to humiliate him. Yūma, Yoneya and Yōtarō happened to arrive in the last round. Yōtarō got angry Osamu was defeated and said he would avenge him, but Yūma challenged Midorikawa to another 10-round battle. Midorikawa accepted, offering his points if Yūma defeated him, but Yūma declined, instead of saying he should call him "senpai" if he defeated him. Midorikawa agreed, saying he'd call Yūma "Yūma-senpai" if he defeated him, but Yūma corrected him, saying it was his leader, Osamu, who he'd have to call senpai. They then started to battle. Midorikawa quickly defeated Yūma in the first round, and then again in the second round, which surprised Osamu and angered Yōtarō. Yoneya explained that there was a big experience difference between Midorikawa and Yūma, which Osamu and Yōtarō assumed meant that Midorikawa was more experienced than Yūma. Yoneya then explained that wasn't the case and told them to simply watch the battle. Beginning with the third round, the course of the battle changed, as Yūma started defeating Midorikawa before he even had a chance to fight back. The battle ended with Midorikawa losing 8 rounds and only winning 2. After the battle, Midorikawa apologized to Osamu, confessing he purposely attracted a crowd to humiliate him. Osamu forgave him, confessing he lost to Kazama 24 times and only drew once. Yūma then apologized to Midorikawa, saying he propositionally humiliated him, but Midorikawa said he deserved it. Jin then arrived, and Midorikawa became energetic, asking him to let him join Tamakoma Branch. Jin then asked him what about Kusakabe Squad, to which he simply said he could be part of both, which Jin denied. Jin then called Yūma and Osamu to the HQ and left with them. Large-Scale Invasion Arc He, Izumi, and Yoneya arrive to fight Lamvanein. Midorikawa uses Grasshopper to distract Lamvanein while Yoneya attacks him. Lamvanein shoots at him, forcing him to take refuge in a nearby building. Lamvanein confronts him alone this time, planning to finish off his three assailants one-by-one. Midorikawa cuts a fire extinguisher, using the gas a smokescreen. He darts forward and cuts off Lamvanein's leg.[3] He later assists Osamu and Karasuma when they are ambushed by Rabbits. When Hyrein arrives, Midorikawa attacks him, but is pinned down with a Rabbit and hit by Alektor. To avoid cubification, Midorikawa bails out. ~Shun Midorikawa's Triggers~ ~Normal~ Scorpion: Midorikawa has reached Master Class with this Trigger and is regarded as a skilled user. His fighting style revolves around his agility. Since he often activates Grasshopper in combat, he generally uses only one Scorpion, but can also fight with two. He is capable of morphing it into a blade which extends outwards from his wrist. He was able to intercept Alektor's bullets. Classification: Attacker Grasshopper In Normal: Midorikawa uses this Trigger to maneuver around the battlefield in the air and to increase his speed without warning, surprising the opponent. He is widely considered a very skilled user. He can utilize Grasshopper effectively even indoors. Grasshopper In Pinball (乱反射ピンボール, Pinbōru; ?, lit. Diffuse Reflection): After creating multiple platforms around the opponent, Midorikawa bounces from one to another at very high speed. The opponent being unable to follow him with their eyes, they are open to swift strikes from Midorikawa. Kō Murakami regards him as the better user when compared to Kuga. Classification: Optional Shield & Full Guard: Border's default Defense Trigger, which erects a mobile barrier in a location chosen by the user. He is also able to activate Full Guard in front of a moving ally, protecting them as they prepare to attack. He can also combine it with those of other agents. He becomes very goofy and energetic around Jin.[1] He also usually dresses similarly to Jin when not on duty. Yūma Kuga Midorikawa and Yūma are friendly rivals. Like how Midorikawa defeated Osamu, Yūma defeated him, purposely losing at first to make Midorikawa overly confident. He is also one of the few people to refer to Yūma by his given name rather than by his surname. Osamu Mikumo Midorikawa was jealous of Osamu for being part of Tamakoma Branch, like Jin. He purposely defeated Osamu in front of a large crowd to humiliate him. He apologized to Osamu after being defeated by Yūma, but Osamu promptly forgave him.[2] He now addresses Osamu as "senpai". Futaba Kuroe Their relationship is unknown, but although Kuroe seems antagonistic towards Midorikawa,[3] they went to the same branch school in the mountains. Yōsuke Yoneya They seem to have a good relationship, and Midorikawa affectionately calls him "Yoneyan".[4] They seem to frequently hang out, along with Izumi, and they visited Osamu together when he was hospitalized.[5] Yoneya has also given Midorikawa advice on battles.[6] Kōhei Izumi They seem to have a good relationship, and Midorikawa affectionately calls him "Izumin".[7] They seem to frequently hang out, along with Yoneya, and they visited Osamu together when he was hospitalized.[8] Trivia: Shun (駿しゅん ?) means "spirited horse". Midorikawa (緑みどり川かわ ?) literally means "green river". Coincidentally, he has green eyes. His English voice actor, Nick Wolfhard, also voices Miyoshi. He has the habit of nicknaming others. He shares this habit with Yūichi Jin, Kirie Konami, Shiori Usami, Rui Osano, Yōsuke Yoneya, Kōhei Izumi, and Kazuaki Ōji. He likes grilled meat, winning in rank wars, and Jin.[10]
