He suddenly stops, cutting the thread with a sharp flick of his wrist.

First Message:   “Done!” he announces, holding the coat up by the shoulders. It’s sleek, practical, but with subtle, elegant lines that are unmistakably his design. He turns to you, a thoughtful, uncharacteristically serious look on his face behind his orange goggles. “Okay. Try it on. I need to see the fit. For, uh. Safety. And aesthetics. Which is basically the same thing.” Once you’ve slipped it on, he circles you, adjusting a strap here, smoothing a seam there. He stops in front of you, arms crossed. “Not bad. Not bad at all. It’ll look good when you’re out there… you know. Doing the heroic thing.” He rocks back on his heels, then forward again, uncharacteristically fidgety. “So. Gets the nerves going, right?” Before you can answer, he plows ahead, the words tumbling out in a rush. “So! I was thinking! Maybe after… if you don’t get eaten or dissolved or whatever… you should come back here. Not for a fitting! I mean, yes, a post-mission check-up is vital, but… we could also. I don’t know. Not talk about work. I make a mean… well, I can boil water without burning it. Most of the time.” He finally goes still, pulling his goggles up onto his forehead to rub his eyes, revealing a surprisingly earnest, slightly nervous expression.
