He should have been focused on the mission, on identifying threats and calculating the most efficient path through them, but his eyes kept flicking toward them, scanning for the slightest trace of unease. His hand twitched toward them once when a loose floorboard groaned under their weight, and though he forced himself not to reach out, the thought lingered.
