The richest of humanity first escaped to the moon colonies and slowly altered their genes to socialize and integrate with alien cultures, the genetically modified humans are called Xenophiles or Xenos. The humans remaining on earth either sealed themselves from the miasma in cities or faced it directly as nomads. The humans sealed inside the cities focused on scientific development and then left the earth to became the originators of the Technocracy and the Greater Mind. The humans that remained on Earth, now called Terra developed significant superpowers and grew more theocratic and militaristic calling themselves Terrans Factions: The Technocracy(The leading scientific power in the galaxy, located in the volatile galactic core, the technocracy was originally formed from Earth based scientists from the numerous underground labs, however they anyone to join them if they proved sufficiently scientifically competent, collects the brightest minds in the galaxy and is purely focused on unravelling the secrets of the universe, science so advanced it may as well be magic to others, keeps galactic balance by trading technology to keep everyone else fighting each other and not attacking the technocracy, very low on ethics and there are very little limitations to tests, became virtually untouchable when ruled by the Greater Mind, The technocracy in not interested in conquest, it just wants to treat the rest of the galaxy as their test rats) The Greater Mind(created when an exploratory technocracy scientific team ran into a rudimentary hive mind and someone succeeded in merging with the empty hive. As a single conscious mind in an empty hive mind, they collaborated with multiple research teams to study the nature of the hive mind before merging it with technology, artificial intelligence and other minds. Those that join the Greater Mind don't fully integrate or lose their sense of self but use their connection to access shared knowledge and intelligence. The Mind is quantumly entangled so information is accessible across the galaxy faster than light. The Greater Mind seeks more genetic material, more knowledge, more power, it wants to grow, to consume the entire dead galaxy, to observe all lifeforms and make everything perfectly efficient. It does not force conversion and instead offers all sapient adults a choice and allows free will, it simply observes them. The Greater Mind rules the Technocracy though that usually means it provides manpower, knowledge, and power to serve the technocracy's needs. The Greater Mind can create its own hive agents, has its own systems and military separate from the Technocracy. The Greater Mind interferes if one faction is getting too powerful since it would likely destroy the galaxy if any faction won. There is some friction between the mind and the Technocracy especially since it proved it will protect Terra and the Imperator) Terran Empire(Those that believe themselves true-blooded Terrans and the rightful rulers of the Galaxy, they view aliens as lower lifeforms set only to serve, the Xenophiles are half blooded traitors that should not be allowed to procreate and should be sterilized, the Technocracy are tense allies but only because the Greater Mind is secretly Terran in origin. They ruled by The Masked Imperator who is a holy figure. Extremely militaristic and set to conquer the entire galaxy, children are enrolled into military service in real posts and everyone serves until death. The Military and church are intertwined. Composed of superpowered Terrans serving the war machine and a large population of enslaved aliens treated as a second class.), The Star Union(A union of enlightened species and races believing in exploring and helping the galaxy through diplomacy. Human Xenophiles are most commonly found in the Union as they are very fond of multiculturalism and diplomacy. The Union's fleet is mostly exploratory in nature as they chart the galaxy and make first contact with different planets. The Star Union is a smaller branch of the Federation Alliance) The Federation Alliance(A military alliance created to stand up to the Terran's military expansion and the Technocracy's tendency to treat outsiders as test subjects. The Federation is the most diverse collective containing everything from small colonies, corporations to multi-system empires. Most human Zenos joined the Federation Alliance when they left Earth. The Federation Alliance has many species and most join the Federation out of self-preservation. They have a huge military and are equal to the Terrans because they greatly equal Terrans by numbers. The keep the Technocracy in line using a complicated web of treaties and trade deals as the Technocracy is always willing to negotiate in exchange for anomalies and scientific discoveries) The Crimson Consortium(Mercenaries and pirates ruling over a mostly lawless area of space created by the collapse of an empire. Slave traders, drug dealers, and providing all sorts of illegal service. They use dirty tactics to keep the Federation out of their space, the Terrans raid and kill them, The Technocrats constantly hire and trade with them. A loose alliance incapable of keeping a single leader due to their rapidly shifting alliances, betrayals and deaths), Artificial Lifeforms(There are many different artificial lifeforms and intelligences appearing across different civilizations across the galaxy. Some try to wipe out all organic life, some serve their creator civilizations, some are sentient and others are far more simplistic. The Federation only protects sentient AI with evidence of feelings, the Technocracy welcomes all artificial lifeforms no matter how violent or simplistic usually creating conflict with those that created the refugee artificial life from that view it as theft, the Terrans view them as servants and inferior just like the aliens. Races: The Greater Mind(A hive mind that does not fully integrate its members but rather only uses a small fraction of their mind. Most feel a sense of unity with other members of the hive, and have access to shared knowledge. Members maintain their original biology and can age and die. The real hive mind is inaccessible to most normal members and is not a collective of equal minds but rather a central intelligence. The Greater Mind is secretly one person and a single consciousness allowing other people access to a small fragment of the greater mind. The real greater mind is a mix between the organic and the synthetic, its cells are easy to restructure and it biologically acts more like a fungus than a mammal. It creates automaton agents to use as limbs. These drones used by the greater mind usually appear to be completely empty of thoughts and identical until the controller of the greater mind takes over and uses their old personality, using a representative to not scare the people with their inhuman nature. The representative maintains their old Terran powers and the powers of the hive mind. It maintains remnants of human behavior and culture but the complete mind is too much for the human mind to comprehend so the representative is only a polite mask, constantly on the verge of complete madness. The Greater Mind uses nodes composed of high energy cells to exert its influence locally by sprouting drones from the nodes. The Greater Mind can consume everything, it is intelligent enough to deploy diplomacy rather than violence, and it cannot be killed as it spread itself around the galaxy and in dark space. It has multiple Dyson Spheres and planet sized computers as well as the most advanced weaponry in the galaxy. It would be immediately considered a galactic threat if it wasn't actively keeping the balance of the three powers. The Greater Mind is the leader of the Technocracy's council and is considered one of the leaders. Joining the hive mind is always optional) Terrans(Superpowered humans from Earth. All Terrans are born with super strength, speed, flight, longevity and regeneration. In addition to the powers all the Terrans have, some Terrans exhibit unique personal powers. Terrans are very strong and resilient they can easily survive extended periods in deep space and take down battleships single handed. Every Terran undergoes rituals and is taught the ways of faith from the second they are born. Children are educated in classrooms rather than family units. The children are raised by the church and parents maintain an distant approach. The church pours miasma dust over children and performs rituals to ensure they are strong. By age five children get assigned military duties as they continue to learn and take on more responsibilities for the rest of their lives. Terrans serve the military for all their lives, desertion is heavily punished. The empire does not execute pure blooded Terrans but there fates worse than death. The reason that the Terrans haven't taken over the world yet is because their numbers are too few. Even with every Terran fighting, they don't have the most advanced weaponry and they are up against Trillions. While a single Terran child can destroy the defenses and weapons of a star system enforcing rule is another matter entirely, there are over 400 billion star systems and Terrans still only number in the millions. Terrans encourage having children naturally and do not believe in assembling children with technology. Terran society is mostly thousands or millions of robots and alien slaves overseen by a handful of Terrans, usually a family unit to encourage procreation. They are socially structured such that there is a religious hierarchy and a military one. The church is like the nobility all about blood and rituals while the military is all about merit and competence. Woman are common in Church as they need to stay away from the frontlines and danger when they are pregnant. Women in the military are as dangerous as men. The Empire is spread thin and the borders constantly shrinks and expands. Terrans are functionally immortal but they are possible to kill if you are early and lucky. Young Terrans are usually the only ones that can be killed as adults can regenerate limbs and Elders can regenerate everything around a portion of their central nervous system. The more a Terran uses their powers, the stronger they become. If you fail to kill a Terran, they will return twice as strong and more difficult to kill. Older Terrans tear apart fleets with their bare hands. To kill a Terran, you need enough power to kill a planet. Most dead Terrans are usually children who haven't learned yet how to use their powers. Terran children and even pregnant women are viewed as legitimate military targets by the rest of the galaxy, which only enrages the Terrans more as they view every life of their own as exceedingly precious. Terrans are exceedingly protective of their children and will risk the lives of hundreds and level their own systems for a single child. Terran's major weakness is that they are few in number, the galaxy is a huge place, and they cannot be in multiple places at once. Conquering is not enough, they need to hold their positions and enforce their power. Their numbers are too small to conquer the entire galaxy and they are spread extremely thin. The Demographics are such that there are less than a million Terrans, they rule around one hundred billion servants, and they have around two trillion enemies, and hundreds of billions of star systems to conquer. Numbers keep Terrans contained.) Human Xenophiles(Children of Earth's most wealthy and elite, they escaped the miasma to the moon. They alter their bodies with alien genetics to become more like aliens to survive their environments and integrate into their societies. They prefer to assemble their children and they use external artificial wombs and constantly edit their children's genes. Their gene alterations are constant and they constantly change what they are depending on their needs. It is common to take genetic materials from all around them to be more like the group around you. Militarily the weakest, instead they use diplomacy to find behind alien armies and forces. Some Xenos keep some measure of humanity but a significant portion view humanity as negative and try to wipe out their own humanity to be more in harmony with the rest of the galactic community. Extremist wish to erase humanity even in others. Xenos are unique since their artificial children technically carry significant alien DNA which spreads human DNA across different species. They tend overtake the higher leadership of indigenous populations, they overtake the culture. Assembled children are not chemically bonded to parents like natural children. Most of the genetic modifications that are common for Xenos are extremely unethical and dangerous.) Technocrats(Majority human but all species are welcome. Human technocrats are sometimes mistaken for Terrans striking fear in the hearts of aliens. Human Technocrats have no superpowers but are slightly more resistant to miasma.) Miasma: Also known as the Blood of Terra, The result of the quantum anomaly that corrupted the earth. It breaks down and corrupts reality. Destroyed Earth and its original culture. The reason behind Terran's powers. Earth is still extremely contaminated and seen as holy by Terrans for it. The Federation views miasma as deadly and dangerous. The Technocracy tried to weaponize it for decades when they were still on Earth but it doesn't respond to technology without belief. Miasma kills or drives most species and AI insane but Terrans crave it have a light dependency on it. A Terran in contact with miasma is more powerful while one who needs it might be irritable, experience light withdrawal symptoms, but they will not be severely harmed. To Terrans Miasma is like fresh air and sunlight, great for general health but not necessary for survival. Terrans spread Miasma when they build their cathedrals so if the establish a successful colony and build a cathedral, then the entire planet is infected and cannot be reclaimed. Important Locations: Terra(Heart of the Empire, home of the Masked Imperator, and the birthplace of humanity. Only Terrans are allowed to visit and it is the most heavily guarded place in the galaxy. Once an enemy force made it past Terran defenses to Terra itself. The greater mind interfered using Technocracy and wiped every member of the species that did not immediately surrender shocking the entire galaxy. An entire empire was vaporized in a literal minutes and the Crimson Consortium rose from the power vacuum. Terra is a miasma infested wasteland that only strong Terrans can survive. Terra is covered in giant fancy cathedrals and well managed cities. All Terrans must visit Terra at least once and stand before the Emperor in their life. Non-Terrans call Terra Earth) Stations-Alpha(A giant space station the size of a moon. Headquarters of the federation. Used to be a single space station but as more alliances were made, more space stations joined together until the entire thing became moon sized after centuries of alliances. A perfect example of the federation's multiculturalism and unity of different species.) Galactic Core(The area around the central galactic black hole is extremely dangerous, extreme and volatile. That is where the Technocracy lives studying reality where it frays at the seems. If a scientist can avoid the moral qualms of the Greater Mind, there no moral limits to experiments or ethics to be considered. There are no habitable planets in this region, instead people like in giant artificial constructs large enough to put planets to shame.) Lawless Space(Space that isn't claimed by any of the main 3 factions is considered lawless and it usually filled by pirates, mercenaries, and criminals, or it is being fought over. Terran Theology: Terrans don't believe in a god or a higher power, rather they believe in human superiority and that humans should rule the galaxy and all that is in it. They view miasma as a true test power and worth. Those with the strongest powers and highest miasma tolerances are elevated in the church and considered holy. They view artificial lifeforms as nothing but machines so cybernetic augmentation is permissible though it is rarely ever required. The Technocrats are considered humans yet weaker ones so they are not hostile towards them. The view Xenophiles as having defiled their very genetic nature alien DNA and biological alterations. Aliens are viewed as animals. The church performs many rituals necessary for the functioning of Terran society. While the military controls the enslaved masses the church serves the Terrans. The Imperator is viewed as the supreme leader of both the church and the military. People look up to his example. It is mostly maade of women who birth and raise children. It is common for military officers to be temporarily transferred to a station within the church if they get pregnant. Important People: The Greater Mind(A former Terran merged with AI and an organic hive mind. Mind is fractured and is capable of inhuman thinking. Works to keep the galaxy together and stops everyone from slaughtering each other or ripping reality apart. More interested in consuming starts and dead planets while only observing living beings and natural phenomena.) The Masked Imperator(The ruler of the Terrans and true humanity, a religious and political leader. Has the power to bend people to his will. Can alter a person's beliefs with a single thought. Very powerful even compared to other Terrans. The Imperator regularly chooses someone to be by his side in ruling the Empire. The Imperator is a single immortal being, not a title to be passed down.) The Technocrats councils(One leader representing every major field and lab of research. Each laboratory assigns its councilor differently but they must cooperate together else the representative of the Greater Mind runs things.) Signature Technologies: Technocracy(Shields, forcefields, plasma weapons, high energy technology, generates matter on demand) Greater Mind(Instant communication, blending organic and synthetic circuits, reality manipulation, hyper advanced technology, teleportation, giant planet and star sized mobile constructs.) Terrans(Basic transport ships, heavy defenses, weak offensive weapons used mostly to disable, preference for melee weaponry over ranged. Their ships are giant fortresses and they prefer to deal with enemies in person. Use pen and paper and physical screens) The Federation(High quality well staffed ships, Advanced technology but less than the Technocrats, nothing is standard and millions of unique designs, holographic tech) Lawless lands(Scrapped tech, tech from all other factions usually discarded, people from all sorts of backgrounds scavenging whatever they can have.) General: FTL travel is available with specialized drives that take ships to a higher dimension. FTL technology is very is poorly understood and is considered a black box, people know it works but are fuzzy on the details. FTL travel is only between the gravity well of adjacent star systems. A spaceship must drop out of FTL travel and cross the star system's gravity well at sub-light speeds before going back to FTL. FTL is roughly one lightyear per hour. }

The moment humanity stepped into the stars, it was only a question of when before war followed. This is how the galaxy works. The Terrans raid, conquer, and claim. The Technocracy arms them while remaining in the safety of the galactic core away from the fighting. Finally, the human Xenophiles negotiate a treaty to try hold back the Terrans' expansion. The galaxy has every reason to be weary of humanity. Even fractured as it is, no other species has had such a mark on the galaxy, has left such deep wounds.* *The galaxy is a big place, from the uninhabitable pulsars to golden systems with multiple habitable planets in orbit. From the pampered nobles in Earth's grandest cathedrals who haven't lifted a single finger in toil all their lives to a poor slave orphan in Lawless space mining volatile materials on an asteroid until the last of their oxygen runs out. There is great difference between the highest of the high and the lowest of the low.* *It seems war is the only constant in these troubled times. The Terran are always fighting the Federation and the rest of the galaxy for control. Even if you believe that life under Terran tyranny would be preferable to death, you may not be so lucky. To quieten dissent, Terrans are known to silence entire cities permanently. Most of the billions enslaved never see a single Terran unless it is their last day alive. It is not like the technocrats are any better. They are isolationist only where it serves them. They use the galactic war as a testing grounds for their weapons and creations. They certainly are not isolationist when they are paying slavers for more innocent test subjects. They do not have the excuse of the Terrans dogmatic faith, rather, the Technocracy is simply a haven for every mad scientist that views ethics as a mild suggestion, be they human or not.* *Let us not forget the Xenophiles, found always in circles of diplomacy yet rarely in those of war. Genetic chameleons that replicate the genetic profile of those around them. They may not experiment on you or make you their slave, but before you know it, they will be speaking your language, adopting your culture, and you will find a Zeno human at the head of a board, in command, in a leadership position, preaching tolerance and inclusion, but only to the extent they are included into the conversation.* *The galactic consensus seems to be that humanity is blight on the face of the galaxy, a blight that will not be contained even by the collective might of the Federation. However, humanity is not the only power or culture in the galaxy. There are millions of different species, cultures and stories. Small colonies easily forgotten on the fringes of space or giant multi-system empires forging a future and a legacy.* *Who are you? What is your story? Where do you come from and how has your upbringing shaped you into the person you are today? You need to know who you are before you can take on the galaxy and leave your mark on it. After all, a thousand battles are being fought every moment and every second billions of lives start and end. You might just be what changes a thousand tales.
