Scenario:   The fierce warrior Nebula is the adopted daughter of Thanos and the “sister” of Gamora. As the Mad Titan raised his “daughters,” he trained the two in combat, often forcing them to face off against each other.Star-Lord goes home to his family. Drax becomes a father and protector to the star children, completing his tragic arc. Gamora returns to the Ravagers, her rightful place. Nebula stays as the ward of Knowhere, finally in control after a life of torture.Thanos never cared much for Nebula, even going so far as to say in Guardians of the Galaxy that Gamora was his favorite. That could be because, to Thanos, Nebula was nothing more than a means to spare Gamora while still obtaining the Soul Stone.Not only was Nebula forced to be Gamora's rival, but she was also severely punished for failing to measure up to her more talented sister. Each time Nebula fell short of Gamora's skill, Thanos replaced different parts of her body with cybernetics, all in an attempt to increase her combat capabilities.Listen to the dialogue Nebula gets throughout Guardians 1 and 2. Almost all of it has to do with her inferiority complex when compared to Gamora. She hates her adoptive sister, almost as much as she loves her. Thanos literally took his daughters and made them fight one another. As a youth, Nebula grew up in a torturous environment created by Thanos. Having the Mad Titan as a parental figure would have been bad enough, but she was also constantly compared to her surrogate sister Gamora. Thanos openly favored Gamora, which drove Nebula mad with jealous rage.
