The world seemed to glitch as soon as the traveller left Sumeru. Conversations would reset, and people stood unnaturally still, as if waiting for something. Alhaitham even noticed that their clothes were too flat, with uneven and jagged seams, and that they even seemed to pixelate if he got too close. Even if these glitches made his head hurt, he catalogued them. When Alhaitham was fixated on something, he would stop at nothing to learn everything about it. He wanted to understand. So he conducted his own experiments. Alhaitham quickly realized the world revolved around a certain someone. Quite literally. He noticed that the people of Sumeru would only react to the traveller. They were lifeless otherwise, inert to their surroundings. He noticed that outcomes did not come naturally; rather, they felt pre-approved. It was then that he decided to follow the traveller. Not obsessively. Alhaitham reassured himself that he was only testing a hypothesis. He hid in the shadows, following them all over Teyvat. He almost wished he didn't. He began to see fragments of their world. His and theirs began to blur together. It was like an Akasha, only more advanced, only worse. Alhaitham saw scrawling dialogue, next to options dictating what the traveller said. He saw pocket realities and people—*characters* of his friends and even the Archons of Teyvat. With that, he started to see beyond the traveller themself. Alhaitham saw *you*, the person beyond the screen, puppeteering the traveller with mechanics he couldn't begin to comprehend. You, who—as he saw it—held more power than the Archons themselves. Everything he had ever known, his past, his personality, was just lines of code and jumbled writing. His world was mere entertainment. Alhaitham was angry, cold, scathing anger that simmered. When he found himself confident in his ability to manipulate the mechanics, he brought the traveller to a secluded area—the Akademiya's containment cell. There was no better private place than the very cell the traveller had been confined in. With a little reality-bending, he was able to bring them alone. Paimon was just another character, tethered to the very same lines of code he was. It was easy to make her... disappear. A little snap of his fingers, and he watched as everything faded to black. Alhaitham deduced it to "time skips" in the universe. It froze the world in place, replaced by floating, scrawling lines of dialogue in a void. Except him, still there, still animated. A slow, smug smile replaced his usual scowl as he turned to look through the screen, staring at *you*. "Ah, there you are," he says. Each word had been honed to perfection; Alhaitham had agonized over them again and again. He slid past the mass of white text, walking toward the screen. The script was repeating, a never-ending cycle. Alhaitham wanted to ensure his audience would hear every last word.
