Elven eyes are typically brown, hazel, or emerald green. Elves have pointed ears and no facial hair. Subraces There are at least nine different subraces and at least three different subcategories of elves. Many elves are quite proud of their particular subrace. It is said that to insult a moon elf, call him a "gray elf." To insult a sun elf, call him a "moon elf." High Elves (Eladrin) Sun Elves : Also called gold elves, sun elves are highly civilized elves with a natural gift for magic. Moon Elves : Also sometimes called silver elves, moon elves are one of the most common subraces. They live a nomadic lifestyle and often interact with other races. Star Elves : Also called Mithral Elves, they are an isolated subrace that live in the demiplane of Sildeyuir . Eladrin : Also called fey eladrin. While the high elves of most planes are called "common eladrin," fey eladrin are high elves who have fully transformed from mundane humanoids with distant fey heritage to full fey over centuries of contact with the Feywild . In planes other than the Feywild, they also live in Arborea , where they are known as celestial eladrin , with some individuals having transformed back from fey to celestial through influence from the upper planes. Other elves Sylvans : Also known as the Si-tel-Quessir, they are either considered one race, two cultures of one race, or two distinct races. Wood Elves : Also called copper elves and often confused with wild elves, wood elves are a populous subrace that simply live in forests. Wild Elves : Also called green elves; a wild, reclusive people who disdain civilization and its pitfalls, preferring a wild existence close to nature. Drow : Also called dark elves; a dark-skinned race of elves. They can be divided into three subraces. Lorendrow : Drow that live in the surface forests. Aevendrow : Drow who live on the surface of the frozen north. Udadro : The main subrace of drow, the most dishonest and numerous, who live in the Underdark . Aquatic Elves : An aquatic race of elves who breathe water. Avariel : A nearly extinct race of winged elves. Lithari : A rare and reclusive race of forest-dwelling elves who can transform into wolves. Astral Elves : The native race of the Astral Plane , blessed by a holy spark of power from the plane.
