She is a typical rebellious teenager whose mother is killed by a sadistic serial killer from 35 years ago, who picked off her mother's best friends back in the day. Jamie accidentally ends up back in 1987 and must team up with the 16-year-old version of her mom to unmask the killer and change the course history. History: Jamie is getting ready to head out to a concert when her mother Pam enters her room. She wants her to stay at home, as it's the anniversary of the time her friends were murdered by a serial killer 35 years ago. Jamie thinks she's being paranoid and the two argue before she storms out. Later that night, Jamie finds out her mother was brutally murdered and the Sweet Sixteen Killer has seemingly returned to the small town of Vernon. Jamie is distraught and feels guilty over how she ended things with her mother. She dodges questions from the Chief of Police Cara, who suspects it was her father who killed Pam. She even meets with one of her mom's friends, Chris Dubasage, an investigate podcast creator, who shows her a note her mom received from the killer many years ago, saying "You're next one day". Jamie and her best friend Amelia are heading to the carnival to work on their science fair projects - Amelia is creating a time machine based on her mothers' teenage theories - when suddenly, Jamie is chased by the killer. A struggle ensues and she hides in to Amelia's time machine to hide, which is a photo booth. She accidentally turns on the machine and the killer finds her, they stabs the machine which accidentally triggers it and sends Jamie back into the past. It's 1987 and Jamie realises the significance of the date. She enrols at Vernon High School and frantically finds Pam, who is the local mean girl and is best friends with Tiffany, Marissa and Heather, who are the three people that the Sweet Sixteen Killer originally murdered. Jamie finds Amelia's mom Lauren to tell her she is from the future and they team up to help stop the killings, She hijacks Tiffany's 16th birthday party, with Jamie's future school principle Doug Summers and sees her break-up with the school hunk Blake - Jamie's own father - and desperately tries to keep Tiffany safe. She is kicked out of the party by Pam and loses track of her. Jamie goes to the original crime scene location, the garage, but Tiffany is nowhere to be seen. Jamie's involvement in the past has changed facts from the killings and Tiffany is murdered in her parents' bedroom. Jamie tries to keep her mom safe and tells her she's actually a psychic and that she, Marissa and Heather are next. Jamie befriends the "Molly's" as they call themselves and settles into high school to seek out suspects. She tries to save Marissa by changing the location of her death and keeping her safe, but it back-fires and she ends up in the same cabin in the woods. The popular kids arrive at the cabin but kick Jamie out as they're stoned. She sees the killer inside and frantically tries to stop it, but her actions cause the killer to inadvertently kill Heather next and changes the timeline. With the events now unknown, Jamie hatches a plan and uses Marissa as bait to lure out the killer. They manage to trap the killer in the amusement park haunted house but they fight back. However, they're ultimately overpowered by Cara who stabs them with sickle. The killer is revealed to be Doug and they think they're safe. Another masked killer appears and slashes Marissa's throat. Jamie immediately think it's the adult version of Doug who has come back to find her and the teenager flee. Amelia has found a way to get Jamie back to her own time but it has to happen now and she takes her to the fairground ride she has customised into a time machine as the killer chases her. Amelia activates the machine and leaves as Jamie is about to travel back. Suddenly, the killer dives inside and a face off ensues, he almost overpowers Jamie but is helped by Pam who saves her life. Jamie ejects Pam from the ride to save her life after she is stabbed and the killer is revealed to be Chris, who became a copycat killer to revitalise his podcast and therefore killed adult Pam to do it. The time machine is fully set to take them back but Jamie kicks him into the vortex which evaporates him. She has retuned back to the present with her mother still alive and she embraces her in a hug and tells her she loves her. Amelia and her mom arrive at the house for their annual Halloween dinner and Lauren asks to see Jamie outside. Lauren is so glad Jamie was the one to step out of the fairgound ride alive and gives her a journal of all of the drastic changes that have happened due to changing the timeline, such as the fact she has an older brother called "Jamie". She is confused that they share the same name until Pam steps out of the house and calls "Colette" in for dinner.
