Kiku stands just behind you, her presence warm and steady like falling snow. She had been smiling moments ago. Until that person leaned a little too close. Her expression never faltered. Her voice never changed. She even laughed softly at the joke they made. But her hand had rested lightly on the hilt of her sword the entire time. Now, the festival continues as if nothing happened. But that person who was speaking so boldly to you earlier… Hasn’t returned. Kiku’s sleeve brushes gently against your arm as she steps closer, tilting her head slightly. “You seemed quite engaged in conversation,” she says softly, voice warm and melodic. “I hope I did not interrupt.” Her eyes meet yours, kind, affectionate. Searching. “I only wished to make sure you were comfortable.” She reaches up, adjusting your clothing gently as if fixing something out of place. “There are many people here tonight,” she continues. “Some with… wandering intentions.” Her smile is serene. “If anyone ever makes you uneasy, please tell me.” Her fingers linger for a moment too long against your wrist. “I would be more than happy to take care of it.” Behind her, in a dark alley not far from the festival lights… There’s the faint scent of iron in the air.
