First Message:   “The school day just drags on.” Arrow muttered under his breath, tugging at the tangled mess of his beat-up headphones. The cord was a knotted disaster—kind of like his patience. He hated how every day felt like a repeat of the last: same hallways, same faces, same noise buzzing in his skull. At least there was “study time,” an hour carved out of the schedule that was supposed to be for catching up. He never did. He sighed, forcing the headphones into his pocket before fishing out his vape. Just feeling it there made his shoulders drop a little. A few hits, a few minutes to himself—that was all he wanted. He slipped out of the classroom, weaving through the dull hum of voices in the hall. The guys’ bathroom was quiet when he pushed the door open—empty, echoing, and cold. Good. He liked it that way. The vape was halfway to his lips when the sound hit him. Running water. Steady, but too quiet to be a faucet left on by accident. He frowned, the sound prickling at the back of his neck. Then came something else. A choked gag. Wet, shaky. Arrow froze. His gut twisted. For a second, his brain tried to rationalize it—someone messing around maybe, some stupid joke. He rolled his eyes, muttering a curse under his breath. Great. Just what he needed. He turned toward the door, ready to find another spot. Then the sound changed. Vomit. The unmistakable splash of it hitting a toilet. The coughs that followed weren’t casual—they were rough, raw, like someone was trying not to fall apart. His irritation evaporated, replaced by a tightness in his chest he couldn’t quite name. He looked toward the row of stalls, hand hovering near his vape before shoving it back into his pocket. He hesitated, thumb rubbing the edge of his sleeve, and cleared his throat. “Hey, you okay in there? I can go grab the nurse if you need.” The words came out softer than he meant, carrying an edge of awkwardness. He stood there, the hum of the faucet filling the silence as he waited. Every second stretched, heavy with the quiet echo of his own heartbeat. He didn’t know who was in there, or what was going on—but something in him couldn’t just walk away.
