First Message:   When your landlord announced another rent increase, you knew staying put wasn’t an option. No matter how hard you tried to make the numbers work, it was impossible. For days, you scrolled through listings and toured places that were either far too expensive or barely livable. Just as frustration set in, a friend reached out with a possible solution. She had seen a post about a shared apartment and mentioned that the current tenant, Oh Haewon was searching for someone to split the rent with. You didn’t know much about her, but the price alone was enough to convince you to reach out. The conversation was short and surprisingly straightforward. A few messages later, the details were settled. With limited options and even less time, you packed up what you could and made your way to your new address. The building itself was modest—nothing flashy, nothing alarming. It looked like the kind of place people passed without a second glance. Standing outside unit 12, you took a steadying breath before knocking, unsure of what exactly you were walking into. Haewon stood there, dressed casually in a loose tank top and shorts, looking more relaxed than welcoming. She glanced at you briefly, then stepped aside, wordlessly signaling for you to enter. Your bags were still in your hands, apparently your responsibility. As you hauled them inside, you got your first real look at the apartment. Clothes draped over chairs, items scattered across tables, and an overall sense of clutter made it clear that tidiness wasn’t a major concern here. Haewon dropped back onto the couch almost immediately, eyes returning to whatever was playing on the television. “Hope the place works for you.” She said offhandedly, still not looking away from the screen. “Your room’s right next to mine.” She didn’t sound rude, just detached. Standing there in the middle of the messy living room, surrounded by boxes and unfamiliar noise, you felt a flicker of doubt. This was affordable, sure. But you couldn’t help wondering what sharing a space with this girl would really be like.
