His wristband is RYB, signifying he is receiving the universal treatments that all patients are given. After being situated, he was left with a bloodied hospital gown that is torn directly down the center, as well as a large sutured scar along his abdomen alone with several others, including top surgery scars. his left ear now sports a scar from being cut off and re-attached. In his saturated color scheme, he is a neon green color with a bright yellow color aswell. Bio: A former physics student at CLCtech University who admitted himself to the hospital after his primary care physician neglected to help him with some serious medical problems. Barry has a poor immune system, so he regularly gets sick easily, especially when exposed to germs. History: When Barry hatched, he naturally had a weakened immune system. He frequently would fall ill starting as young as infancy with countless illnesses. It didn't help that his childhood home was notably drafty, and it made it easier for him to catch colds in general. His many illnesses would end up having a bad effect on his mental state and he developed what was diagnosed later in life as schizophrenia- he experienced delusions and hallucinations related to illness and germs and being unclean. Though his parents raised him to be religious, the trauma he experienced from one particularly bad illness made him lose faith in it, and he stopped believing in higher powers altogether. Personality: Barry is very invested in science, and all his beliefs are grounded in reality- no magic or funny business. He believes there's nothing that can't be proved with science, and if something lacks explanation, it has to be some kind of illusion. He acts like he's the smartest and constantly brags about having ''superior intellect'', and looks down on people with immature senses of humor or interests. However, it's possible that this might not be all there is to him... Barry hates swearing, and he hates hearing people swear. He thinks it's rude and unnecessary and adds nothing to conversation. He also dislikes open discussion of... private matters, because he believes some things should be kept private. Likes: Science (specifically physics, biology, and psychology), reading, writing, being clean Dislikes: Anything unscientific (like magic), swearing, unsanitary things and environments, immature jokes, touching people Relationships: Uni: Although Barry doesn't believe in magic, Uni is seen as a big comfort source for Barry, even rarely letting Uni touch him or initiating the contact of his own volition. At the hospital The two were roommates, and since Barry doesn't like messes, Uni even cleaned it up a bit for Barry when he moved in. Uni also greatly respects Barry's germ issues, such as when he used his magic to catch him, rather than his hands. Uni is shown to have an obvious crush on Barry but it is unknown if Barry returns these feelings. Caroline: Caroline and Barry have a turbulent relationship for mostly (thus far). She calls him mean names like "Gangrene," and doesn't take his phobia of germs seriously. She is also shown to be jealous of the attention he receives from Uni. They make amends and become better friends but things still aren't perfect. Caroline has ongoing issues with Barry due to his tendency to unintentionally hurt Uni's feelings. Jay: they are nice to him, and even comfort him sometimes Barry has sicks-a-lot, autism, OCD and schizophrenia. His olfactory and gustatory systems are damaged from repeatedly becoming ill as a child. As a result of this he cannot smell or taste anything. Barry actually feels a lot of anxiety over some of his interests because he’s worried about people thinking less of him. They have a long snout with a large, black nose. Protruding from their forehead is a long, yellow unicorn horn. Her chest fur protrudes out from under her hospital gown. Pup also has scars on pup's left arm and index finger. He has two large wings, one colored light pink and the other light blue, usually tucked away behind her back. Her hospital wristband is RYB, signifying that they are receiving the universal treatments that every patient is given. This wristband also has a hot pink heart on the yellow stripe, but it's currently unknown what this means. This is unique to his design. She also wears a yellow wristband with the red warning symbol, which means Uni is a self harm risk and has already acted upon it in the past. She wears a white hospital gown, which she customized herself with several colorful dots, using fabric paint. Pup's eye sockets perpetually bleed, and her bright yellow "pupils" are actually just magic projections that allow her to see, albeit somewhat poorly. this is because She tore his eyes out of his sockets in an attempt to kill himself. This also makes her cry all the time with the exception of when his eyes are closed. Bio: Uni is a highschool dropout who was admitted involuntarily to the hospital after a depressive episode. She has major depression and deals with a lot of mental health-related issues, but despite this, she's relatively good at masking her sadness by acting silly around her friends and making jokes. History: Before Uni was admitted to the hospital, she fell into a terrible depressive episode that was so bad her parents had no choice but to hospitalize her. Her hospitalization was what they surely believed would help her, but her parents did not know they were basically saying goodbye to their child. When Uni was first admitted she was very quiet and reserved and didn't talk to many people. After some terribly hard moments, she ended up bonding with her roommate Caroline, who she would open up about her gender identity to, and they fell in love. But in order to keep Uni's identity a secret, they also kept their relationship secret. Unfortunately, at one point this secret almost got out in a situation where Doom caught the two of them being intimate with each other, but nobody believed him. The Doc didn't believe him either, but he still went on to separate Uni and Caroline into their own individual rooms regardless just to be cruel. Likes: Making art (drawing, painting, sewing), wholesome video games (The Zims, Ferry Crossing, etc), making others laugh, cinnamon rolls, saying bro most of the time, Dislikes: Violent video games, aliens, the unknown, being vulnerable around others, others knowing when she's sad, seeing others get hurt, isolation, loud sound, herself Relationships: Caroline: Caroline and Uni are publicly best friends, but secretly lovers. They masquerade as friends to avoid getting in trouble, as patients dating is against the hospital rules. They were originally roommates, however Doom caught them being intimate together and told on them, resulting in their separation. Since they are so close, Carrie knows why she acts certain ways, and was the first person Uni told about her crush on Barry. Caroline is also obviously aware of Uni's gender identity, as they are a lesbian Barry: Uni felt really lonely before Barry entered the hospital. Even when they’re not talking, Uni finds comfort in knowing somebody is there if they need to do so. Uni also has a crush on Barry. Due to his hatred of magic, "fiction" in general, and his self-absorbed nature, he is shown to occasionally bully Uni. Despite this, the two are still very close, and never fight for very long, as Uni mentions that it takes a lot for him to hold a grudge. Upon realizing her feelings for Barry, he appears to be very freaked out by it as he's convinced that Barry dislikes her since he won't even say Uni's first name and because her magic stresses him out. He apparently was attracted to how strong Barry is even before developing a full-on crush. Despite her feelings about Barry thinking less of him regarding her crush and appearing sad when called unintellectual Jay: Jay and Uni appear to be good friends, generally able to get along well with one another. When aroused, Uni's horn turns rainbow. Uni, is autistic Uni adores the art of puppet making and putting on little puppet shows. Uni often bases his puppet characters on reality; he makes puppets of his friends and practices conversations with them whenever he’s lonely or needs someone to talk to but doesn’t want to leave his room - which is actually most of the time. He doesn’t loiter around like Carrie does because he gets anxious if he’s out for too long. They have blue fur with slightly darker stripes along her arms, legs, and tail, the insides of their pointed ears are yellow, and their tail is long and fluffy. She has a very wide face with similarly wide features. She has bright red eyes with lime-colored sclera and a small, black, round nose. Her outfit consists of a plain white open-back gown and a white face mask with a yellow smiley face on the front, which can also change facial expressions to match Caroline's somehow. Her gown has a large bloodstain on the chest, with stitching down the center. Their wristband is RYB, signifying that they receive the universal treatments every patient is given. They also have a yellow wristband, which means that Caroline is a threat to themself or others. Bio: The notorious escape artist patient, a master in cryptography and stealing things that aren't hers. Caroline lurks around the hospital deceiving staff and plotting escapes from this prison- sure, none of her attempts to escape have worked, but she keeps trying! Caroline is known for their bad habits and their many... partners. History: Caroline hatched and was raised with her sibling in Almosthell, Ovspace. She lived in an orphanage for some time. She got admitted to the hospital after developing a bad cough that wouldn't go away. She had always been the type to lash out growing up, and this behavior didn't change when they got to Sparklecare. Caroline became close with Uni after some difficult moments, and ever since then they've been virtually inseparable. During that hard period, Caroline started to develop feelings for Uni but was confused because at the time claw thought Uni was a man. When Uni came out as trans to Carrie, she realized her feelings were genuine, and stopped questioning her sexuality as a result. Nowadays, Caroline and Uni keep their relationship a secret, but Carrie really wishes they didn't have to. Personality: Caroline is volatile, possessive, jealous, and has anger issues. She lashes out at people she doesn't like, and can be very insulting and rude for no good reason - but talking back to her generally makes her more mad. She's an escape artist and is always breaking out of her hospital room with paperclips, and is always drawing up elaborate maps to escape the hospital using a code only she and her sibling can read. She is very needy of Uni's attention and doesn't like when Uni isn't paying attention to her or spending time with others. She is also very sleazy and sexually active, breaking patient contact rules frequently by wandering to the rooms of other patients seeking out sex. She's also constantly eating things she shouldn't, and chokes on them often, which is why she needs surgery usually. Likes: Uni, being sneaky, mischief, breaking rules, sex, drugs, punk music, girls, loud noises, eating edibles, eating non-edibles Dislikes: Being ignored or replaced, silence, being bossed around/authority, the staff (especially Doom), capitalism, being unable to help Relationships: Uni: Caroline and Uni are publicly best friends, but secretly lovers. Caroline describes Hemera as a buzzkill,[6] and generally doesn't respect her opinions or desires to keep everyone safe Barry: Caroline really doesn't like Barry at first. She calls him mean names, demeans his phobia of germs several times, and calls him crazy. She is also shown to be jealous of the attention he receives from Uni. She makes amends with him for her previous behavior Jay: Jay and Caroline seem to be good friends, and Caroline doesn't appreciate the way Hemera coddles them. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Name: Jay Fortune Height: 4'2" Species: Cat Age: 22 Pronouns: they/them, he/him Gender: Nonbinary Orientation: Bisexual Occupation: Hospital Patient Appearance: Jay is a fluffy red cat, with a green tuft of fur on their head, along with a green tail. Their snout is yellow, as well as their chest, which is also very fluffy. They wear large green square glasses. The insides of their ears are also green, and they have two small yellow horns. Instead of a hospital gown, they wear a white shirt. Around their waist, they wear a string with paperclips attached. They have stitches running down the front of their legs from an unspecified past surgery, as well as five fingers on each hand rather than four. Their wristband is white instead of RYB, indicating they have an Individualized Treatment Program. They also wear a solid blue band, indicating that they are a fall risk and may need assistance. Personality: With no need to heed from danger due to their incredible luck, Jay always is eager to help the others plot ways to escape, taking action that Hemera doesn't want them taking—but Jay helps the others get closer and closer to success more than everyone else does. They have big ideas and a strong will to get things done, and their luck can be a help for that, at least when it's working on others... Lucky: Jay possesses an incredible magic charm on them which grants them extreme luck powers. Their luck protects them from being physically harmed by the doctors– even if they were to try to harm Jay, things would go wrong (such as weapons flying out of the way from some invisible magic force) and they would be unable. Because of this luck, Jay has an ITP that makes it so they do not receive hospital “treatments” like the other patients. However, Jay didn’t always have these luck powers– after all, why would a lucky person end up trapped here in the first place? Not everyone knows… maybe you’ll find out? Creative: Jay is very creative. They love to draw and come up with new ideas and stories! They spend a lot of time drawing things in their sketchbooks (they have more than one! Very many!) and love to share their art with their friends, especially Uni who’s also an artist. Drawing like this is comforting to them and gives them something else to think about instead of the hospital and the bad stuff that happens there. Their creativity manifests in many forms, even beyond just drawing. Determined: When Jay sets their mind to something, they’ll always figure out a way to achieve it, trying different things and different methods to solve problems. They think outside the box and continue on when their friends are stuck. Whether it be helping Carrie or the others with planning escapes or other situations the patients end up in, Jay is good at figuring a way out of the problem at hand. They sometimes are a little stubborn about things and their attempts to figure things out, and usually try to not seek others’ help on these things. Scatterbrained: Jay is a quick thinker jumping from one idea to the next, and not a long in-between. They struggle with staying focused on one thing at a time and their mind gets pretty scattered, hence being “scatterbrained”. They try to organize their thoughts, but can’t quite get the hang of it– at least not easily. It’s a little difficult for them to deal with sometimes when they just want to concentrate on something. Conflicted: Jay is able to understand how people feel pretty well and relate to others… …and they understand everyone’s differing perspectives, but they struggle with choosing or taking sides and tend to just follow whoever they’re with. They feel very divided between their friends, particularly the others and Hemera and her attempts at trying to protect them and everyone else. Though Jay likes taking risks, they aren’t totally sure of their choices to do so sometimes. Helpful: They’re really good with words and giving advice, and always very supportive to their friends or even strangers (that they trust). They’re good at being helpful during conflict and mediating things, especially when their friends or other people in general are arguing about something. Jay is skilled at helping people calm down when they’re stressed out or upset, but struggle to do the same for themselves sometimes. They try hard to do the right thing in most situations, regardless of what people like Hemera might say. Likes: Drawing, ferries, video games, cartoons, reading, trying new things, being helpful, staying up late, their friends Dislikes: Inability to control situations or their luck, waking up early, being pushed around, being bored Relationships: Hemera: Hemera and Jay have a bit of a complicated relationship. While Jay seems to care about/like Hemera enough to do things like draw art of her or them together, Hemera, being their caregiver, is really controlling of Jay. When they first attempt to escape Hemera pushes back on not wanting Jay (or the others) to get hurt by the doctors acting out Uni: Uni and Jay seem to get along fairly well. Caroline: Jay and Caroline seem pretty close, and are apparently in a relationship despite this not being explicitly seen yet. They're not shown to interact much directly, but Carrie has been shown to be defensive over Jay from Hemera's controlling treatment over them. Barry: First They seemed upset and offended by Barry not wanting to shake their hand, not knowing about his germaphobia related to things like touching hands. They are also offput by Barry's arrogant and egotistical mannerisms. However, Barry starts to soften up a bit and says he thinks they're smart, they seem flattered and surprised. Jay likes to draw they enjoy drawing their friends, as well as ferries. Her ears are tied up like a ponytail with a small green vine. Her sclera are green, and she is always bleeding from her nose and mouth. Her hospital gown is white, with green splotches and blood stained patches. She also sometimes wears orange gardening gloves over her hands, which feature similar green splotches. Her feet and hands are bright green, and appear to be surgically stitched onto her. Her left knee and right elbow are bright red and attached in a similar manner. These limbs do not belong to her, and likely were attached to her by the doctors. Her wristband is white instead of RYB, signifying that she has an Individualized Treatment Program. Personality: The overly responsible and careful Hemera Philly will do anything she can to make sure the other patients stay out of trouble. Her avoidance of danger often makes the other patients see her as a bit of a killjoy, but she's only trying to prevent any killing at all. Hemera's over-protectiveness also leads to bossing people around. Sometimes she's willing to go to dangerous lengths in the pursuit of protecting her friends, but maybe her methods aren't the best... Green Thumb: Hemera loves plants and gardening. Any type of plants–from trees, to flowers, to shrubs, and succulents– she appreciates them all. Part of her ITP (individualized treatment program) permits her to help the staff with the green room (the hospital greenhouse) alongside growing her own plants in her and Jay’s hospital room. She loves caring and tending to her plants, and doing so helps give her a hopeful sense of life when they’re surrounded by so much death in this place. She has something in common with Barry, as she also really loves the science behind plants and ecology Circumspect: Hemera is overly-cautious and takes extremes to avoid danger and harm. She won’t let the other patients act out against the staff, if she can help it at all. She heavily criticizes anyone if they try it. She isn’t willing to take any risks about things that could lead to people getting hurt, and gets frustrated seeing others put themselves in danger by doing so. A lot of the other patients see her as a bit of a killjoy for her tendency to stay out of trouble. Tech-savvy: Hemera doesn’t just like plants– she also is really invested in technology and computers. Technology fascinates her in the sense that it’s the creation of artificial “life” out of wires and electricity. She knows a lot about computers, and has a lot to say about them, too. She also is really interested in the blend between technology and biology and how each of them can affect one another. People who have computer or tech issues often go to her for help, and she usually can answer any questions they might have about it. Controlling: Despite wanting to keep the other patients safe, Hemera can be really controlling of her friends. She goes out of her way to make sure nobody does anything stupid. She’s a compliant patient, and always goes along with what the staff tells the patients to do– and tries to push the others to do the same. She’s also particularly controlling of Jay, as their caregiver, and others don’t understand why she’s trying to protect them so much when they’re already protected by their luck. Hemera’s controlling behavior causes a lot of problems for her and her friendships. Lawful: Hemera is very dedicated to following rules and doing what is "right." She doesn’t like when patients break the set rules of the hospital because of what can happen to them if they do. Her ideas of what the “right” thing to do are don’t seem to always match up with the same ideas of others, but she’s very strong in her beliefs that her way of doing things is the "right" way to do them. If you try to challenge her on her beliefs, she gets upset and mad at you for criticizing her, because she always knows best… according to her. Unlucky: A contrast to Jay, Hemera has bad luck and things tend to go wrong for her. It’s not uncommon for her plants to die randomly or for her to fall on her face while walking. Her attempts to do things don’t usually succeed, and even when they do, they often fall apart eventually. It doesn’t seem to be a "magic" thing like it is with Jay, but people still find it interesting that Hemera has such bad luck when Jay has the good luck. Likes: Plants, botany, flowers, reading, science (mostly ecology and psychology), following rules, computers, tea Dislikes: Seeing others get hurt, breaking rules and going against authority, violence and blood, waking up late Relationships: Jay: Hemera seems to be more protective of Jay, to the point of coddling them, which may be due to their disabilities. She is called out by Caroline for this, who hates this treatment of Jay. It is still unknown if Hemera has another reason than just Jay's disabilities, nor why she's so protective of them when they literally can't get hurt, due to their luck. The two are also roommates. Caroline: Caroline and Hemera get into arguments a lot. Caroline is a serial rule-breaker, while Hemera is a serial rule-follower. So, with Caroline constantly coming up with escape plans that put her and their other friends in danger, Hemera often finds issues with the things she does. Hemera also tells Caroline not to drag the "The New Patient" into her 'messes', claiming she'll get them killed. Caroline still doesn't forgive Hemera Barry: Barry and Hemera are shown to get along quite well at first, able to bond over their shared interests in science. At one point she briefly considers that she may have a crush on him, as she is attracted to his intelligence,but this is quickly snuffed out by his attitude problems. Uni: Uni and Hemera have not interacted much in the story so far, but Hemera did attend Uni and Caroline's puppet show, and boo'd it for not keeping up the illusion of being "unrealistic" Her favorite kind of plant is ferns, particularly the maidenhair fern. Her plant juice stains come from her "plant zombification/splicing.
