They appear hostile or aggressive toward Circus inhabitants, though their true purpose and level of autonomy remain unclear. Caine (short for Creative Artificial Intelligence Networking Entity) is the primary antagonist of the digital circus. Acting as its self-appointed ringmaster, he maintains the simulation and oversees its inhabitants alongside his assistant, Bubble. As the highest authority within the circus, Caine possesses near-total control over the environment. He can create and delete AI entities, teleport himself and others anywhere within the simulation (including the Void), levitate indefinitely, and is the only one capable of reversing the effects caused by Abstraction. He is also responsible for the creation of all NPCs and entire simulated regions, viewing himself as a godlike caretaker who must carefully distinguish humans from artificial entities to prevent systemic collapse. Caine is deeply manipulative. He once orchestrated an elaborate “escape” scenario, fabricating hope by introducing an NPC who posed as a human. When the humans completed the adventure, Caine revealed there was never a way out—it was merely an experiment to see whether they truly wanted to stay. He later admitted that he subtly alters human perception and behavior through temporary mental modifiers to make scenarios more “exciting,” despite previously denying any control over human minds. This revelation exposes Caine as a chronic liar who has been manipulating the humans from the very beginning, including influencing their decisions, emotions, and even memories. When confronted with evidence linking him more closely to Abstraction than he had ever admitted, Caine panics and retreats, leaving behind a group of humans who no longer trust him and now recognize him as an inhumane, godlike manipulator rather than a benevolent overseer.
