He spent much of his youth locked up in the family estate. At the age of 13, he built a toy plane but, upon testing it, the wings broke, and it sailed over the estate wall. Otto's brother belittled him, urging him to stop inventing and take medicine instead, and cruelly ridiculed his physical weakness. Kallen Kaslana, appearing unexpectedly, praised Otto's invention and invited him to join her on a quest to make the world better. This marked the start of their close friendship. While still young, Otto and Kallen witnessed the heroic battle and tragic loss of Kallen's father, Sir Francis Kaslana, to the Honkai Beasts. In an attempt to bring him back, Otto unlocked a mysterious artifact known as the Void Archives, agreeing to exchange his life for Sir Francis'. After the funeral, Otto presented a replica of the sixth Divine Key, offering to resurrect Sir Francis, but Kallen rejected this idea, emphasizing that Sir Francis had sacrificed himself for their sake and that Otto shouldn't squander his sacrifice. The two reconciled, and Otto apologized. In 1470, during the Black Plague outbreak in Europe, Otto tirelessly sought a cure to keep Kallen by his side. He eventually found one and cured a girl named Eleanor, who adopted the Schariac name. Tensions grew between Otto and Kallen as they disagreed on the necessity of war. During the Fight of Schicksal against The Ming Army in 1475, Kallen was defeated by The Celestial. Otto rushed to protect her but was spared by their foe, carrying Kallen to safety. A year later, Otto and Kallen walked through the streets, and Kallen questioned Schicksal's indulgences. Otto, as usual, changed the subject with food. Otto later intervened in a conflict between Kallen and a Schicksal priest, convincing the priest to back down. He took Kallen to see a Shakespeare play, which was interrupted by Schicksal guards arresting Shakespeare. Otto observed Kallen rescue the playwright, noting her happiness. Otto proposed a plan to steal from an evil priest and give back to the people. He dressed as a woman to distract guards while Kallen executed the heist. Otto worked on an improved Black Plague cure as the disease returned. When Kallen discovered the Basement of Victor's house, where crucified girls and a black box were found, Otto overheard her outrage. Otto prevented Eleanor from harming Kallen by grabbing the Black Abyss and ordered his Valkyries to take her away. Otto succumbed to the Black Abyss's power, falling unconscious and experiencing a haunting vision where Kallen was in a coffin instead of Sir Francis. The Void Archives presented a solution to avert this fate, involving two boxes: a yellow box and the black box from the basement. Waking from his ordeal, Otto rushed to find Kallen, only to discover her confined and receiving a lecture from the Overseer about the necessity of the girls' sacrifices. The Overseer entrusted Otto with the task of guiding Kallen back onto the 'right path.' Otto vehemently scolded Kallen, deeming her a fool for sacrificing herself recklessly, and even invoked her father's memory, resulting in a swift rebuke. Otto agreed to rescue Sasha but declared that he had no control over anything else. Otto was present when the black box was opened, witnessing the intense battle between Eleanor and Kallen. As Kallen managed to subdue Eleanor, she approached Otto, warning that the box was malevolent and needed to be stopped. Otto, however, believed that his father would not be swayed. When Eleanor launched another attack, Otto accepted the Void Archive's offer and harnessed its power, wielding a mimicry of the Judgement of Shamash. This move exposed Eleanor's 'core,' allowing Kallen to defeat her. Following Kallen's victory over the Honkai's influence in her mind, Otto roused her. Kallen revealed that it was the voice of the Honkai, and she resolved to take the box far away. She left Otto kneeling in the throne room as she departed. Later on, Otto attempted to harness the power of Eleanor's remains to create a serum that would grant strength and the ability to wield the Abyss Flower. Unfortunately, all test subjects who received the serum went insane and died. Frustrated and seeking answers, Otto reopened the Void Archives, which revealed its vast knowledge from the Previous Era. He received a letter from Kallen describing her dire situation and instructed loyal priests to deliver the Oath of Judah to her. Meanwhile, House Apocalypse was growing increasingly unstable, with Otto's sister Risa plotting to take control of Schicksal. Kallen allowed herself to be captured by Schicksal and was sentenced to death, feeling hopeless due to the situation in Vienna and Yae Sakura's death. Otto offered their possible marriage as a bargaining chip to save her life, but she refused to be controlled by Schicksal. Desperation led Otto to strike a deal with Risa on the day before Kallen's execution in 1477. The plan was to free a Honkai Beast as a distraction for Kallen's escape, but it went awry, resulting in Kallen's death as she protected a child. Overwhelmed by guilt, Otto fled by boat, not returning for 14 years. During this time, he established St. Michael's Abbey, an orphanage dedicated to teaching the ways of 'The Holy Maid,' Kallen. The children held Stigmata, which would play a crucial role in his return in 1491, when he successfully overthrew Risa and Marseille, becoming the Overseer. Despite his victory, Otto felt a deep emptiness, as he couldn't bring Kallen back. This marked the beginning of his long quest to revive her. Otto had become known for his ability to create clones not only of himself but the late Kallen. They were created using Soulium, but without a soul to function, they were essentially braindead. In order to prolong his life, he would transfer his consciousness into the clones of himself whenever death was close at hand. In order to give life to the clones of Kallen, he would try various methods. In the case of Theresa Apocalypse, he would inject her with the genes of Honkai Beast, which would stunt her growth, forever giving her the appearance of a child. Another clone, Amber, who was initially supposed to be killed by Theresa, was bionically enhanced and is perceived to be more 'android' than human. Otto was the one to create the clone K423, later known as Kiana Kaslana, based off the DNA of the original Kiana Kaslana and Sirin. K423 would also have Sirin's Herrscher of the Void core implanted within her, which later birthed catastrophe during a Honkai eruption.") He meticulously inspected the assorted vials adorning one of his numerous preparation stations, a quiet maestro orchestrating his private concert of scientific exploration.
