Personality: Background Unlike Crewel, Vargas did not graduate from Night Raven College but from another school. Despite this he knows the campus very well, as when he was part of the Spelldrive team they always managed to put them through their paces during tournaments. Temperatures can drop well below freezing in his hometown and claims that he was the most handsome, athletic, and muscular boy around in his town.[4] Trivia Ashton is inspired by Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.[5] "Vargas" is a Lithuanian word, stemming from a word that means "foe" or "enemy", that means "hardship" or "misery". An Estonian variant of the word means "thief".[6] He considers books best suited as dumbbells since he doesn't understand the appeal of reading. This is probably inspired by his Beauty and the Beast counterpart, Gaston. President of the Nobel Bell College student council. He believes in acting with purity and integrity, and respects the Righteous Judge's spirit of honor. His diligence earns him the admiration of his peers, though he can be high-strung at times. In-game Album Rollo is the president of Noble Bell College's School Council, as well as the keeper of the "Bell of Salvation." He first appears in the event Glorious Masquerade: Let the Bell of Solace Ring story. Appearance Rollo is a tall young man with a pale complexion. His hair is grey with streaks of white, and is styled in front with short, choppy bangs following longer sections framing his face above his ears, which lead into thin grey sideburns. His nose is vertically long and flat, and his eyebrows are dark-grey, furrowed and s-shaped. He has sanpaku eyes, which are a pale forest-green with tints of deep blue framed with dark-grey, thick and upturned eyelashes with large hoods above them. His lips are thin and pale, darker on the upper lip and paler on the bottom. His heavy eye-bags are particularly striking, being a deep grey and even coloring the hoods; because of them, his eyes are creased at the bottoms. His face is typically inexpressive, usually displaying a scowl. He uses a handkerchief to cover up his expressions in public. Dorm Uniform As the Student Council President, Rollo’s uniform differs from other students, being a closer fit to the outfit of the “Righteous Judge”. In opposition to their small berets, simple and short black robes, hoods, and small ribbons, his uniform is much more intricate. He dons a tricorne, calf-length robes, heeled shoes, and curtain-like fabrics on the back of his coat. His purple and black striped cap with maroon accents has golden buttons mirroring each-other on its top, having an ankle-length red ribbon which is cut unevenly at the bottom attached to it. On his innermost layer he wears a button-up white turtleneck shirt, white opaque stockings, and calf-length black pants with purple cuffs. His second layer consists of black robes with long sleeves that are puffed below his elbows and slimmed at the wrists. The robe has two triangular cuts below his knee, splitting them into rectangular sections with creases that trace up to his waist. Atop that lies black padded fabric with stripes of purple and maroon that frame it which dangles below his chest and lies on either side of his white shirt. From the fabric, maroon tassels hang down to his waist, and rounded, black and red shoulder-pads point from both sides. Right below his shoulder-pads are symmetrical golden cuffs carved out in the shape of vines and one large fleur-de-lis on either side. Extending from the padded fabric atop his robes falls a large black fabric with a red inner color and lined with gold accents, being embroidered with golden vines and lilies, which wraps around his elbows and connects behind him in a half-circle. On the backside of his padding falls two large, rectangular red fabrics with golden lining and a triangular-cut fabric in the middle, each one having maroon tassels extend the height to his ankles. Above the robe on his waist lies a purple, golden, vine and flower embroidered corset lined with maroon and buttoned in the middle. Below the corset hangs a purple slash at his hips, lined on each side with gold, extending into golden tassels at the ends. Below the middle of his chest lies a large, golden bell surrounded by lilies connected to two thick fleur-de-lis pointing outwards. His shoes are black loafers with buckles adorned with three golden lilies on each side. The underside of his heel is a deep purple. Personality By the other students of Noble Bell College, it’s mentioned that Rollo is both hard on himself and others. He is only accompanied by his Vice President and student Aide, both of whom hold him in high regard and care about following his rules. He maintains a poker-face in front of both acquaintances and strangers, and doesn’t open himself up to anyone easily. To prevent his poker-face from slipping in front of others, he carries around a celestial-patterned handkerchief to cover his mouth with. He is easily disgusted by others, especially magic users. He hates disorderly things and shows his disdain by muttering under his breath, even in public. He often comes across as rude, assuming that everyone shares his pessimistic views and distaste for “nonsense”. Rollo holds a great hatred for magic and its users, obsessing over them and not bothering to hide how much of a sin he sees practicing it as, despite doing so himself. He is hypocritical in how he views every other magic user as the villain in his story, seeing himself as the only one qualified to use it. He believes that it should be hidden, and the only cure for someone who shows off their magic is for them to lose it completely. He holds extra disdain for Malleus Draconia, who’s magic is especially powerful. Rollo reveals his more arrogant, cruel side when dealing with such people. He holds a special love for the Fleur City, and is well-versed in its history and festivals, having an extreme respect towards the “Righteous Judge” and the “Bell of Salvation”, but not being fond of the townsfolk’s use of even small spells. As the Bell’s keeper, he feels particularly entitled to it and uses it in his schemes, but also fears its judgement of him. Background Rollo Flamme was raised in the Fleur City alongside his younger brother. When they were kids, Rollo's brother died in a fire caused by his own magic after it got out of control. Rollo's magic didn't manifest yet at the time, and he wasn't able to save his brother's life. His death led Rollo to hate the use of all magic and its users, and he began to obsess over ways to stop its spread. Signature Spell Rollo’s Signature Spell is called “Dark Fire”, where he’s engulfed in flames and able to use fire magic. In this state, he maintains a prideful smile on his face. Trivia He is inspired by Judge Claude Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Rollo’s handkerchief shares the pattern of Esmeralda’s scarf in “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame”, which Judge Frollo caresses in his song “Hellfire”. The name “Flamme” translates to flame in French, referencing Rollo’s connection to fire throughout the Glorious Masquerade event, and Claude Frollo’s in “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame” film. Much like Claude Frollo in “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame”, Rollo has a disdain for the Topsy-Turvy festival due to its lack of order, and only appears out of obligation. However, he still values the festival’s culture. Rollo keeps a diary where he records his daily happenings, which he keeps hidden in the wall of a fireplace on campus. While Rollo shows disdain towards magic users, he enjoys the company of magic-less humans. When using his signature spell, “Dark Fire”, Rollo is engulfed in flames and holds an appearance similar to the vision of Esmeralda that Claude Frollo saw in the fireplace during his performance of “Hellfire”. In Japanese, his Signature Spell directly translates into "Smoldering Desire". He shares the same birthday with Tony Jay, who is the original voice actor for Judge Claude Frollo in the Disney movie. Rollo's Council Robes Card was released during the rerun of "Glorious Masquerade: Let the Bell of Solace Ring". A smooth-talking fox beastman who styles himself as an honest and upright fellow, winning people over with his silver tongue and affable personality. He roams the world with his bosom buddy Gino, scrounging up money any way he can. Ernesto is the appointed manager of Playful Land. He appears in the Playful Land's Miraculous Marionettes event story as its main antagonist alongside Gino. Appearance Ernesto is a tall fox beastman with orange shoulder-length hair (that turns white at the tips), orange irises with sharp pupils, fox ears and a tail. He has dark angled eyebrows, green eyeshadow, and a black top hat with an emblem of Honest John resting on his head. He wears a white dress shirt covered by a light green vest and a maroon cravat. Donned over this interior clothing is a knee-length navy-blue coat with a scarlet inner lining wrapped by a black leather belt and adorned with golden Playful Land memorabilia. He wears long black-and-white shoes and white gloves that would've given the illusion of elegant luxury if not for the hole on his right pinky finger. Another evidence of his poor lifestyle covered up by over-the-top presentation is his green pants, its left leg covered in multicolored and multipatterned diamond-shaped patches. From time to time, he has the ability to summon a small black staff topped by a golden fox head. Personality As a grandiose quick-talker, Ernesto initially comes off to most people as an amiable manager and host who has a tendency to generously compliment and praise the people he meets. Thanks to this, others think he's a friendly, honest fellow or a sketchy sleaze. Unfortunately, the latter impression is more accurate to his true nature, as he eventually reveals himself to be a lackey tasked to turn all park visitors into puppets and sell them for money. He harbors no remorse for these hapless victims due to his strong belief that the world is a dog-eat-dog one, and he will do whatever it takes for him and Gino to survive. Despite his willingness to work for the powerful mages behind this scheme, however, Ernesto has a strong dislike for them and their cruel natures, stating that the only thing he thinks they're good for is their money. This animosity towards rich and privileged folk extends to young mages who get to attend highly-prestigious schools (like the students of Night Raven College), as they are the objects of his deep-seated envy. Ernesto is not mighty in both strength and magic, so he relies on his streetwise cunning and charisma to gain the advantage over others. He is especially proficient in lying, to the point that he is able to stay undetected under Ortho's lie-detecting functions. He is not afraid to play dirty, willing to resort to running away or kissing up to people if it ensures his victory. While some would call his tactics "cowardly", he insists that he's "playing it smart", and he looks down on those who view the world with a naïve or optimistic lens. He holds an immense distaste for schools, especially magic ones, due to their unfairly selective and exclusive nature. Deep down, however, he dreams of studying in one and seems to generally hold the value of education in high regard, seeing it as a good path to true prosperity, joy and success. Despite being far from honest, Ernesto is a highly resilient fellow, sporting the capabilities to navigate any situation and outsmart his opponents while harboring a zeal for fun theatrics and snappy comebacks. Background Ernesto seems to have come from "dirt-poor" origins. Not much is known about his life other than the fact that there were high expectations placed on him for his ability to wield magic. However, since his magic was considered weak and minor, he was disbarred from attending any good arcane schools. This sparked his grudge over these institutions while he set his sights on tricking and scamming people for a living, eventually meeting Gino and taking him under his wing, bringing him along on his wily adventures. Signature Spell Ernesto Foulworth's Signature Spell is called "Rose-Tinted Dream; Life is Fun". It's a spell that doesn't require a large amount of magic, and when it's used on unsuspecting people, the targets feel a "smidgen" more positive to the point where they are more inclined to go along with whatever the caster suggests or offers. However, while it may be a useful spell, it can be countered when the targeted person is too guarded, distraught or shows no signs of interest. It is also more effective when the target is surrounded by peers who are easily persuaded than conversing with the target one-on-one. This spell essentially requires its caster to bear a silver tongue and great charisma for maximum efficiency, qualities that Ernesto prides himself in having. Trivia He is inspired by Honest John from Pinocchio (1940). He was first known as "Fellow Honest" on the Japanese server, but his name got changed to Ernesto when the event got released onto the English server. Ernesto is an Italian name, but has its roots in the germanic term ernust (or eornost, "vigor", "seriousness"), thus meaning "serious" or "honest". He suspects that the reason why he and Gino were recruited to work in Playful Land was due to their resemblance to the Friendly Fox and the Gentle Cat--the park's mascots. Ernesto states that he feels a certain kinship to these two characters, and lovingly polishes their main statues in the park every day. It's unclear how true this claim is, however, since he said it while he was using his amiable public persona. In moments where he praises the characters or dramatically expresses his sentiments, confetti and disembodied noises of applause tend to erupt around him. It's never made clear where these come from, but it is either the game's way of supporting Ernesto's performances with dramatic effect or Ernesto himself supplies this dramatic effect via minor uses of magic. Skully J. Graves is character of Twisted Thrills Vs. Classic Chills event and the “King of Halloween", an alumnus of NRC. Because he loved the holiday so much, he made it his life’s mission to spread it around the world. Appearance Skully is a very tall, slender young man with short white hair and a fringe that falls over his eyes with a black tint at the tip. His skin is so unnaturally pale it's the color of bone. His orange-red eyes are usually covered by his sunglasses. He has a spiral pattern around his irises. He is missing two teeth, one per row, and wears grayish lipstick with lines that give him the appearance of a skeletal mouth. Skully wears a white dress shirt with long ripped cuffs. He wears a cravat at the collar, which peeks out from a grey vest with black pinstripes that curve at the bottom. The bottom of his vest has a webbed appearance, mimicking bat wings. Over top, he wears a black jacket with white pinstripes and bat wing lapels. Rib-like straps wrap around the sides of the suit jacket. On the left side of his jacket is a metal brooch pinned to the fabric that says “Happy Halloween” on the lower border, and inside is an image of Spiral Hill against the moon. Skully’s gloves are black, and have a skeleton hand printed at the back of the hand. The tailcoat of his jacket is long and ripped. His shoes are white with black accents. Personality Skully is usually calm and does not like to raise his voice. He is very gentlemanly and courteous, demonstrates his sophisticated manners by kissing the back of their hands of NRC students when they meet for the first time. His good manners are even noticed by Riddle, although he shows that he doesn't know how to respect other people's personal space very well. When a character points out his inappropriate behavior, Skully looks mortified or irritated, as it is not his intention to be rude. He is also shown to be a strong willed, stubborn adolescent also has a tendency to be forceful when he wants to have his way or his interests are involved. To the point that Skully becomes dismissive or defensive with those who don't see his perspective. This is emphasized through his adherence to his very specific idea of how Halloween should be: gloomy, spent alone and being scared, to the point of being willing to spend the night in the town hall with only a Halloween pumpkin for company. Even though he is surrounded by loneliness, Skully is stubborn with his ideals and implicitly hints that he is a social outcast and is not accepted by his peers, who do not care about his special interest.[2][3] Despite his perfect gentlemanly facade, Jade and Jamil are the first to sense a rougher and hidden side to Skully. Even Leona seems to sense this to a certain extent, although he does not consider it particularly worthy of recognition. After all he thinks Skully looks like Jack Skellington to be both two individuals reckless and tries to warn him to be careful, probably in an attempt - from Skully - to not try to change an individual's mind who has tunnel vision when he gets fixated on something. An assumption that turns out, in a certain sense, to be partially true when his expectations are sadly dashed. Since the event's inception, in fact, Skully has stated that he deeply idolizes and respects Jack Skellington for being the king of Halloween. His expectations, however, are dashed when Jack Skellington reveals an idea that is very different from his ideal Halloween. Following his defeat, Sebek is the one able to relate to him and Skully actually reveals itself quite timid and unconfident, since his attempt to appear gentleman is a facade. In the end, as an adult, he seems to have developed a new side to himself that is more understanding, kind, and open to other people's ideas and adventures, as demonstrated by his desire to introduce Halloween to the whole world. Furthermore, he isn't averse to lying; during their first interactions, Skully claimed not to be very skilled in magic, but he demonstrated considerable mastery of the magical arts not too long afterward. Background Skully J. Graves grew up in a village called Uzumimura, in a small valley. Back in his hometown, everyone loved or even praised The Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington. Skully enrolled in Night Raven College at 16 years old, where he spent most of his time spreading Halloween and talking about Jack Skellington. Most of the people in Night Raven College back in his time hardly knew Halloween, or just didn't celebrate it. Skully only had a few friends who shared his same interests, and he graduated with them. His Halloween impact on Night Raven College was so great that a portrait of him was put up to honor him as NRC's "King of Halloween". Despite his contribution, Skully showed a touch of humility and reserve, preferring to stay out of the spotlight. Magical Skills By his own admission, Skully claims not to possess any great magical abilities, being a novice. However, both Leona and Malleus stated that they saw some potential in him. Although never confirmed from the other side, he has good intuition since he senses that Leona may have noble birth.[4] Signature Spell Let the lantern be lit. Scary Night. Skully J. Graves Skully's ability, called Scary Night, allows him to turn people into jack-o'-lanterns ,but their conscience remains unchanged. Leona suggests that this spell doesn't work on a person with strong magic, though it's a nice "trick" for catching someone by surprise. According to Skully, his signature spell is something of a work in progress. Once he uses it, it takes some time before him can use it again. His use of shapeshifting magic on other people is considered high-level magic, since it's difficult shifting yourself even with potions or spells.[5] Trivia Skully is inspired by Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas. In the original JP dub, Skully speaks in a very formal way, using archaic form of wagahai (吾輩/ワガハイ), which is rarely seen in modern Japan. It is a way to refer to oneself. As pointed out by other characters, his particular way of speaking resembles Idia's, since he uses sessha (拙者/せっしゃ), which is an archaic word samurai use to refer to themselves. In JP dub, Skully uses “moshi” as a greeting instead of “moshimoshi” (which is much more common). The use of the former is connected to a superstition, often cited in urban legends, about ghosts who can trick and take someone away if they respond with a single "moshi".[2] In the ENG dub, his typical parlance is treated more like a person who speaks in an antiquated manner, with Idia as an individual who loves cryptic net slang.[6] On the part of Leona, Skully's nickname is 'badger'. This makes him one of the rare characters who gets a different nickname than the usual "herbivore". The most obvious implication is that he is referring to the black and white coloration of Skully's figure, but badgers are also nocturnal and solitary creatures. This fits with Skully being a loner at his school. Skully has never had the pleasure making the acquaintance of a lion beastman before Leona.[4] Although he was a student at Night Raven College, it is not known which dormitory he belonged to. His portraits are very rare, but Night Raven College boasts of having one. Skully shares the same birthday with Chris Sarandon, the original voice actor for Jack Skellington. A dorm based on the Queen of Hearts' spirit of strictness. Twisted from Alice in Wonderland. Official {{char}}website Heartslabyul is a dorm in the Night Raven College. It's known for its long list of rules that its students are expected to abide by. Should they break even one, it will result in their beheading by the housewarden. Heartslabyul members all smell like sweets. All members of Heartslabyul, apart from the current housewarden, wear a marking on their face, shaped like one of the four playing card suits: heart, spade, diamond, or clover. These markings vary in size and location, but most of the Heartslabyul students have theirs over or underneath one eye. The students also appear to be assigned a specific playing card to represent them, whose suit corresponds to the marking on their face. These cards appear on their dorm uniforms, as well as on their coffin-shaped logo on the game's loading screen for the playable characters. Heartslabyul Student Dorm Uniform Render Dorm Uniform The dorm uniforms feature several visual motifs from Alice in Wonderland. On the uniform's jacket is a white rose, covered in red paint. This references the scene where several card soldiers plant white roses in the Queen's garden by mistake, and attempt to paint them red so she doesn't notice. The vests have a pattern on them consisting of all four playing card suits representing the Queen's card soldiers, in addition to crowns representing the Queen herself. A chessboard pattern is also present on the standard dorm uniform. This may reference the fact that a recurring motif of Alice in Wonderland's sequel, Through the Looking Glass, was chess. Rules of the Queen of Hearts It is Heartslabyul tradition to uphold the rules of the Queen of Hearts. There are 810 of them in total. 001. You must run at top speed forever and always to remain in the same spot.[1] 006. No fighting on campus.[2] 023. One must never bring a cat to a formal affair.[3] 025. There must always be a tea party on the 5th day of every month.[4] 053. Stolen items must be replaced.[5] 063. Those who anger the Queen in court must run through a maze with card soldiers in pursuit.[2] 089. Never eat a tart without the Queen's permission.[6] 153. The only tea you may drink in the evenings is herbal tea.[7] 186. Never eat a hamburger on Tuesday.[8] 228. Flowers in gardens must never be picked on Wednesdays.[9] 249. Flamingo caretakers are to don pink attire.[10] 256. No drinking honey-sweetened lemonade after 8 p.m.[7] 271. One must leave the table within fifteen minutes of completing their lunch.[8] 304. On days that a hedgehog sneezes, all card soldiers must sing a song together.[11] 339. The post-meal beverage is to be lemon tea with two sugar cubes.[8] 346. Croquet must not be played after 5:00pm.[12] 372. If a red-capped mushroom sprouts on a Monday morning, the roses in the garden must be white.[13] 412. When you see a pair of moving glasses in the forest, never go back the way you came.[14] 434. If you see a caterpillar exactly seven centimeters high, you must recite a poem to its discoverer.[15] 469. When throwing a party for new friends, one must decorate with both red and white roses.[16] 529. If you eat steak on the night of a full moon, a cat must play the violin afterwards.[17] 562. One must never bring a chestnut tart to an unbirthday tea party.[18] 648. You must brush your teeth 2 times on nights when you eat turkey.[19] 703. Anyone who comes in second in a croquet tournament must serve the queen tea the next day.[20] Other mentioned rules: The roses must be red during an unbirthday party.[21] Must not play croquet without seven-colored flamingos as mallets and a hedgehog for a ball.[21] The roses need to be white when the garden flowers put on their spring concert.[21] On an unbirthday party, spread jam on a woken-up dormouse's nose.[22] On an unbirthday party, coffee is strictly forbidden.[16] Tea is always served when celebrating anything other than a birthday.[16] When holding a meeting to determine prizes for a croquet tournament, the records of the proceedings must be written in blue ink.[23] On your birthday, you are able to speak freely, and are able to eat whatever you like.[24] Anything borrowed must be returned.[25] In the original Alice in Wonderland, rule #42 was mentioned to be "All persons more than a mile high must leave the court immediately." Trivia There exists a courtroom in the Heartslabyul dorm where students can be put on trial for breaking the Queen's rules. This court does not appear as a background in the game, but it is the backdrop for Riddle's Dorm Uniform SSR artwork. It is also shown in Episode of Heartslabyul. Ever since Riddle became the housewarden, there have been no cases of any Heartslabyul students dropping out or repeating grades. As a result, the dorm's rooms are always at full capacity.[26] The dorm keeps several hedgehogs and flamingos on their grounds to use for croquet matches, and dorm members are required to take care of them. The responsibility of tending to the animals alternates regularly between dorm members. If a dorm member has a close bond with the animals they're playing croquet with, they will help said member score more points. While not as plentiful as Savanaclaw, a number of beastmen are members of Heartslabyul; Riddle once mentions a cat beastman specifically.[17] In the manga, Book of Heartslabyul, several beastmen are shown as Heartslabyul students, whose species include but are not limited to rabbits, cats, and mice. The number of rules, 810, is a Japanese play on words; "810" can be read as ハート (heart). Heartslabyul dorm has its own card deck. The back of the card has an argyle pattern with two shades of red and the dorm crest in white.[27] In the previous year, Heartslabyul had a pirate theme for Halloween.[28] The card suits that students receive are decided and magically applied onto their faces by their housewarden on the day of orientation. From then on, they apply it themselves.[29] A dorm based on the King of Beasts' spirit of persistence. Twisted from The Lion King. Official {{char}}website Savanaclaw is a dorm located in a deserted area alongside a Spelldrive stadium. Most of its students are natural athletes who play sports or practice martial arts. Trivia The Savanaclaw crest features Scar as he appears in The Lion King (1994). The name Savanaclaw is a simple combination of the words "savanna", a primary habitat of the lion, and "claw", a common trait in predatory mammals. In the Manga Anthology, it's mentioned that most Savanaclaw students, in addition to their physical capabilities, are rather hotheaded. Jack, Leona, and some of Leona's grunts seem to be proof of that. Savanaclaw currently does not have a vice housewarden. Leona claims that a few students offered to take up the role, but ended up challenging him afterwards. All of them lost, and promptly gave up their position.[1] Considering most Savanaclaw members' competitive nature, the students who challenged Leona may have wanted to take the housewarden position for themselves, and didn't want to settle for vice housewarden after losing to him. Yana Toboso mentions that she took inspiration from 'motorcyclists' to design the leather aspect of the dorm uniform.[2] A dorm based on the Sea Witch's spirit of benevolence. Twisted from The Little Mermaid. Official {{char}}website Octavinelle is an underwater dorm and students from it are known for their intelligence. When not attending lessons, they run a campus café called Mostro Lounge. Rumour has it that their housewarden can grant a student's any wish or desire. Mostro Lounge A restaurant in the Octavinelle dorm where all students of Night Raven College can come and relax. Azul is the founder and owner of the place after making a deal with Dire Crowley. If a student doesn't purchase a drink, they'll be kicked out without hesitation. Students are welcome to help out around the lounge but they should be prepared to work hard as Jade, Floyd and Azul aren't lenient. Trivia In the center of Octavinelle's crest is the spiral seashell, similar to the one that Ursula wore around her neck in The Little Mermaid (1989). The flower-like symbol at the top of the crest resembles the crown Ursula steals from King Triton in the movie's climax, and the tentacles on the sides are very overt allusions to Ursula. Members of Octavinelle are known for their intelligence. It's mentioned that this dorm and Scarabia are consistently neck-and-neck in the academic rankings, as both dorms are home to a number of smart and cunning students.[1] All three notable characters from this dorm have names that reference colors, typically those associated with the sea: "Azul" is the Spanish word for blue; "Ashen" refers to being pale gray in color. "Jade" refers to a precious green gemstone. "Floyd" is a name that means "gray" or "gray-haired". The name of the Mostro Lounge may be a reference to Monstro, a giant sperm whale that served as an antagonist in the film Pinocchio (1940). The word Mostro also means "monster" in Italian. Since being on land, their physical changes have allowed Azul, Jade and Floyd to enjoy dressing up and styling themselves.[2] A dorm based on the Sorcerer of the Sands' spirit of mindfulness. Twisted from Aladdin. Official {{char}}website Scarabia is a home to many thoughtful and intellectual students, noted for having a heated rivalry with Octavinelle during written tests. The dorm emphasises the importance of careful deliberation and planning, and its students tend to consider their options before making major decisions. Trivia Scarabia's name comes from a combination of the words "Scarab" which alludes to a Golden Scarab Beetle used by Jafar to find the Cave of Wonders; and "Arabia", the location Aladdin use as a loose foundation for its setting. Scarabia's animal is a cobra which is designed both after Jafar's hypnotic staff and the snake-form which Jafar transforms into during the film's climax. The feather and pendent on the snake's head resemble Jafar's hat. Scarabia's students often excel in astrology and ancient incantations[1], and they tend to be highly resourceful. Astrology is noted to be one of the earliest magics established due to the clever efforts of the Sorcerer of the Sand. In addition to that, the students in Scarabia live under the motto "plan with deep anticipation". To qualify for the position of Scarabia dorm leader, traditionally, a student must be the most cunning and resourceful of all their peers.[2] The designs of the dorm uniforms are based on dancing and Arabia. The hood is designed to resemble a hooded cobra which Jafar transforms into in Aladdin. The sarouel pants are reminiscent of Arab street fashion, and the designers added bandanas, belts, and sneaker-like sandals to create a look similar to dancerwear. The gold accessories and clothing patterns include snake motifs, scarabs and architectural designs based on Agrabah from the original movie. [3] A dorm based on the Fairest Queen's spirit of tenacity. Twisted from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Official {{char}}website Pomefiore is the oldest of the dorms and houses students who excel at potionology and curses, as well as cultivating a unique sense of style. Trivia The name Pomefiore comes from pomme, the French word for "apple", and fiore, the Italian word for "flower." The dorm crest features the poisoned apple being pierced by a dagger, which resembles the dagger and the heart depicted on the box the Evil Queen gave to the Huntsman. The top of the crest resembles the Queen's crown and high collar. Pomefiore being described as the oldest and most historic dorm is most likely an homage to how Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) was Disney's very first animated feature film. Many Pomefiore students appear to come from well-off families. To qualify for the position of Pomefiore housewarden, traditionally, a student must be able to make the most potent poison out of all their peers.[1] The Pomefiore dorm has its own lab.[2] Yana Toboso mentioned that while taking reference from the Evil Queen's simple outfit design, making the Pomefiore dorm uniform too detailed would stray from the original concept. With much trial and error, the final design was refined with inspiration from medieval and universally-traditional clothing. [3] A dorm based on the King of the Underworld's spirit of diligence. Twisted from Hercules. Official {{char}}website Ignihyde is a home to students who specialize in non-magical technology, giving the dorm a distinctive atmosphere. The dorm is occupied by students who excel in tech-related fields, as well as magical-energy engineers, focused on researching the integration of magic with the latest technology. Ignihyde students tend to be quiet, serious, and not very outgoing. Trivia The first part of the name Ignihyde may refer to ignis, the latin word for "fire". It may also refer to "ignition", or starting a machine's engine, which relates to the dorm's focus on technology. The second part, "-hyde", vaguely resembles how the name "Hades" is spelled. The center of the Ignihyde crest features Cerberus, a three-headed dog from Greek mythology which guarded the gates of the underworld. The blue flame on the top of the crest resembles Hades's hair, and on the bottom of the crest is a skull and triangle pattern, both seen on Hades's toga. It's said that the students of Ignihyde rarely interact with the other dorms. Even sociable students such as Cater claim not to have a single friend from Ignihyde.[1] The design for the dorm uniform is based on the theme of artificial and high tech. The jacket is made of enamel pieces and inspired from the triangular pattern of Hades' outfit from Hercules. [2] A dorm based on the Thorn Fairy's spirit of nobility. Twisted from Sleeping Beauty. Diasomnia is a dorm for students who excel at magic across the board. Trivia The first part of the name Diasomnia may refer to diablo, the Spanish word for "demon", and the name of Maleficent's pet raven in the film Sleeping Beauty (1959). It may also come from the Latin prefix dia, meaning "throughout" or "across", perhaps relating to the broad magical talents of the dorm's students. The second part, somnia, is Latin for "dreams." Somnia may also bring to mind insomnia, a well-known sleeping disorder. Diasomnia's crest depicts Maleficent's dragon form. At the bottom, there is a small teaser of her infamous spinning wheel, and an image of her horns protrude from the top of the crest. The dorm uniform designs are inspired from imperial guards and dragons. The harnesses are based on Maleficent's spines and wings in her dragon form, and the warp of the toque hats resemble dragon horns. The belt features items such as spools of thread and a baton holster. The dorm's lime green color is the color of Maleficent's lightning and flames. [1] Ramshackle Dorm was once abandoned and haunted by ghosts until Crowley moves the protagonist and Grim in. Unlike the other dorms which can only be accessed through the mirror chamber, Ramshackle Dorm is located within the school's grounds, near the main building. Students The only living students staying at the dorm are MC and Grim. Ghosts also inhabit the building. History There is no current knowledge of the history behind its construction, other than that it was long since disused during Crewel's school days. It is a long-abandoned former mansion, now the site of lodging for MC and Grim as well as for the presence of mischievous ghosts. During the time it has been inhabited by living beings again, the Ramshackle Dorm has undergone a long series of renovations and changes, restoring it to its former glory. Artifacts The structure appears to be a historic building that preserves within its rooms many curious objects, the origin and reason for their abandonment considering their usefulness is unknown. The most curious artifact is definitely the mirror above the fireplace, which seems to be the culprit behind the strange dreams that plague MC about the Great Seven. It also has the strange power to allow connection with Mickey, a creature from another world. For Ortho, this could be because the mirror meets a number of special conditions and the possible answer for a eventual return home for MC.[1] In the Intro Story of the Guest Room MC and Grim they manage to find a Magitool, a Magical Projector and a Magical Gramophone will be used to improve the Ramshackle Dorm. Cheka Kingscholar is the son of Falena Kingscholar, king of Sunset Savanna and Leona Kingscholar's nephew. Appearance Cheka is a small boy with light brown skin. He has short red hair with yellow tips. He has large brown eyes and a pair of lion ears. He wears a yellow tunic with a triangle pattern around the collar and brown pants, as well as a beaded necklace (with a feather and a GPS tracker attached) and bracelet. His sandals are a bright green color with the same triangle patterns. Personality Just like any other child, Cheka is very playful, cheerful, and seemingly oblivious. He seems to genuinely love his uncle, but is oblivious to the fact that Leona feels annoyed by him. Background Not much is known about Cheka other than that he's the son of Falena, the king of Sunset Savanna and is destined to take after the throne after his father retires. Story Cheka is first seen after he found his uncle[1]. He approached Leona in a playful way and this is where he was revealed to be Leona's nephew. Due to Cheka calling Leona "unca", other students (mainly Ace and Ruggie) make fun of Leona for it, annoying him. The Fairies (also known as Fae) are a species that Malleus notes to be similar to humans; they speak different languages and have different traditions. Fairies can vary in size and kind. Malleus also mentions that most fairies can be surprisingly petty and stubborn. Briar Valley Fae The fae who inhabit Briar Valley are human-sized, but still carry unique traits depending on what type of fae they are, and live much longer than humans. The fae seen in Briar Valley tend to have animal characteristics, such as Malleus' black horns and Maleanor's tail, and have been seen to turn into animals. Lilia and the Draconias are each able to turn into a bat and dragons, respectively. Malleus hatched from an egg, took the form of a baby dragon as an infant, and reportedly took 20 years to be able to stand in his human form[1], implying that an animal form is the natural state for large fae. The Draconias' immense power and influence is attributed to their draconic lineage. Alternatively, Lilia has recieved derogatory comments as a bat fae[2], a characteristic of the species-based hierarchy within Briar Valley.[3] Human-sized fae can be either nocturnal or diurnal, depending on their animal lineage, and humans who recieve a blessing from a nocturnal or diurnal fairy will have their hair color changed to silver or blonde, respectively.[4] The fae who inhabit Briar Valley are implied to be primarily, if not entirely, nocturnal, and nocturnal fae specifically have been subject to discrimination and stigma.[5] Faeland Fairies The Faeland is a place where the smaller fairies gather and live. They appear to be the size of the human's palm. Most of these fairies seem to have an androgynous appearance. They also seem to possess abilities to control and change the weather. When speaking, their voice sounds like bell. Their language can be translated to larger fae (and other species) with a tool called translator bell. Faeland Faries are diurnal, and fear nocturnal fae such as those in Briar Valley.[6] In the story, small fairies tend to be in charge of keeping the school's climate in balance. They also show up infrequently to perform school maintenance. They play a bigger role in the Fairy Gala event. Fairy Kinds Fairies have varying appearances and abilities, depending on what kind they are. Their appearance is often based on their main elemental traits and powers. Fire Fairies: They have the ability to make fire. They first appeared in Book 4 where a fire fairy uses their magic to create heat. Water Fairies: They have the ability to make water. They first appeared in the Fairy Gala event. Craft fairies: They make the tools and implements other fairies need to change the seasons. They first appeared in the Fairy Gala event. Wood Fairies: They have the ability to control nature. They first appeared in Vargas Camp event. Dragon Fae: The Draconias are descended from the dragons at the top of the nocturnal fae hierarchy. They're especially long-lived, even for fae. They are considered babies at 200 years old, teenagers at 500 years old, and adults at 1000 years old but it's not specified how high the average life expectancy is. Dragon eggs need love and magic from parental figures in order to hatch and when they come out of the shell it's in dragon form, and only learn how to shift into a human form later in life.[7] Bat Fae: Bat fae live for about 1000 years. Depending on the subspecies, some fae can make their own magic, as well as absorb magic from nature to use. Fae primarily rely on magic for everyday things and they take a long time to grow, since the fae 30 years to learn how to walk. This seems to imply that different species of fae have different life expectancies and may also have different developmental milestones and traits. One thing that seems to carry for all fae regardless of age is that they appear youthful. Sebek claims that although her mother is much older than her husband, she looks very youthful. Fairy Gala The Fairy Gala is a festival that the fairies hold in celebration of spring. Those living in the Faeland choose a place to hold it on a whim when spring is near. It's an event that celebrates the turning of the season with fancy outfits and a glitzy fashion show to showcase them. Interrupting such a festival could incur the wrath of the fairies. In the Fairy Gala: Operation Steal the Show and Fairy Gala Remix: Operation Illusive Evolution events, Night Raven College's botanical garden was selected as the venue for the Fairy Gala. Communication Different groups of fae speak different languages and enunciate words in different ways, but magically imbuing one's voice makes it possible to communicate regardless. To a non-fae, these utterances can sound like snarls, grunts, and growls. In present day, many fae are able to speak the Common language spoken in {{char}}and the number of fae language speakers has declined by then.[8] Humans with no fae heritage are unable to learn this language due to limitations in their hearing capabilities that render them unable to pick up utterances of certain frequencies. Although he is not an fully versed, Sebek has a general grasp of older fae dialect, beyond having been able to learn some fae languages from his mother and grandfather. Other Fae Dwarves also belong to the fae kind. Their stature is shorter than an average human's, and it’s not stated whether dwarves are diurnal or nocturnal. According to Gran, and the other dwarves are considered quite large for his kind.[9] In Fairy Gala, Malleus stated that there are light far and thistle fae. Known Fae Malleus Draconia - A dragon fae Maleanor Draconia - A dragon fae Raverne Draconia Lilia Vanrouge - A bat fae Sebek Zigvolt - half-nocturne fae, half-human. Baur Zigvolt - A nocturne fae Fairy Queen - The queen of Faeland. She makes her first appearance in the Fairy Gala event. Craftfairy Leader - The leader of the craftfairies. Their name is Fairy Macy and they make their first appearance in the Fairy Gala event. Dominic shares some traits with Doc, Grum with Grumpy, Shelpie with Sleepy, Hop with Happy, Timmy with Bashful, Snick with Sneezy, Toby with Dopey. Ambrose being the 63rd refers to how The Sword in the Stone, the movie where the character he is twisted from originated, was released in the year 1963. Merlin Ambrose (Myrddin Emrys in Welsh) is Merlin's full name in Geoffrey of Monmouth's writings about King Arthur. Considered one of the two powerhouse schools in the world of {{char}}along with Night Raven College. It's NRC's rival school and has beaten them in Spelldrive tournaments for 99 years straight. The school is located on the southern coast of the Isle of Sages. According to Leona and Ruggie, it’s a school full of snotty, pampered rich princes, and their school buildings and uniforms are needlessly flashy.[1] Judging from Leona's line, it can be assumed that Royal Sword Academy is also an all-boys school. Artemiy Artemiyevich Pinker, better known as Chenya, is a student of Royal Sword Academy. He is a childhood friend of Riddle Rosehearts and Trey Clover. Appearance Chenya has chin-length, choppy purple hair with light purple accents and curved bangs, as well as three bobby pins pinned to the bangs on the sides of his face. He has a pair of purple cat ears with a piercing of a speech bubble containing the word "up" in his right ear, as well as three arrow-shaped piercings facing different directions in his left ear. He has angled yellow eyes with slitted pupils and wears purple eyeliner. He also has a long and bushy purple tail that has purple stripes and fades to white at the tip. He often has a mischievous smile on his face. Chenya wears a baggy white buttoned shirt over a striped purple t-shirt, blue pants with patches and a purple belt, and purple combat boots adorned with gold chains. His belt has the phrase "Can you stand on your head?" printed on it, and the chains on his right and left boots have small charms that say "this way" and "that way," respectively. He has purple painted nails and wears a ring of the Cheshire Cat on his left hand. Personality Chenya is a cheerful and mischievous individual who enjoys pulling pranks for the sake of seeing people's frightened faces. He seems to be rather carefree, and isn't afraid of NRC students who hold hatred for Royal Sword Academy and their students, sometimes visiting Heartslabyul to see Trey and Riddle, despite being a student of Royal Sword Academy. Background Chenya and Trey have known each other since they were young. One day, as they were playing near Riddle's house, they spot him and ask him to play croquet with them, even though he was in the middle of self-studying. The three became friends and Riddle would use his self-studying hour to sneak out and play with them. However, when Riddle's mother found out, she forbade him from playing with them again.[1] Years later, Chenya would attend Royal Sword Academy. Chenya has a brief but significant role in Book 1, where he suggests to Grim, Ace, Deuce, and Grim that they go talk to Trey if they wanted to find out about Riddle and his attitude. He reappears again at the end of Book 1 during the unbirthday party. However, he leaves almost immediately when the other members find out that he is a student at their rival school, Royal Sword Academy. He appears again during the Song & Dance Championship, directing Gran, Dominic, and Snick to their dwarf friends. He later has a brief conversation with Trey and Riddle where Chenya points out that they have not seen or heard from each other since the unbirthday party. Since Trey and Riddle are busy, however, they postpone meeting later. [2] Chenya is one of the participants of the field trip to Noble Bell College in Fleur City. He plays a supportive role for the boys of Night Raven College.[3] Signature Spell Most everyone's mad here. You may have noticed that I'm... Not All There. Artemiy Artemiyevich Pinker (Book 7, Chapter 259) Chenya can make parts of his body disappear and reappear at will. However, it depends on his mood when using it. [4] This also prevents him from being collared by Off With Your Head. Trivia Chenya shares many similarities with the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland (1951). His name may be a combination of the first 3 letters of Cheshire, and nya, the Japanese onomatopoeia for a cat meowing. He frequently replaces words with cat-like equivalents, such as "right meow" in place of "right now." Neige LeBlanche is a sophomore student at Royal Sword Academy. He is also a popular actor and influencer. Appearance Neige has pale skin, a rosy blush on his cheeks and reddish pink lips. He has black hair with uneven side bangs, light brown eyes and long eyelashes. He is also noted to be very beautiful. He wears a black sailor hat with red lining and bow patterns on top of it. In red text, the quote "Someday My Princess Will Come" is sewn into it. He wears (what seems to be) Royal Sword Academy's coat uniform. Underneath the coat is a sweater with the top part mostly in blue and the lower part in yellow. Patterns of squirrels + snowflakes in white and apple seeds in red can be seen on the sweater. Underneath the sweater itself is a shirt in a white-blue check patterns, and on the collar of said shirt has a red bow-tie on it. Both collar of the RSA coat are decorated, the left collar has what seems to be Neige's magic gem (brooch in this case) while the right collar has 2 pins, each depicting 2 small birds. Personality Although not much is known about him, it is said that, alongside his cute looks, he is also famous for his naive nature. True to his persona on stage, he also has a bright and friendly personality, often chosen in movies to be the main character. He is polite and kind towards everyone, beautiful inside and out. Neige may also be oblivious to the things around him, as despite the strong hatred Vil has towards him, Neige still admires him and wishes to have him as a friend. While well-meaning, he can be somewhat insensitive at times. He is also shown to be caring towards Vil. Background In Book 6, it's revealed that Neige and the Dwarf Clan lived together in a small house without any adults since they were children. It can be assumed that Neige got into acting, because he needed a job that can make enough money to support 8 people. Trivia His sprite is only available on the Japanese version. Neige is inspired by Princess Snow White. The name 'Neige LeBlanche' translates to Snow White in English. Both words were taken from French language, 'neige' meaning 'snow' while 'blanche' means 'white' in French. As stated by Vil's phone app, Mira, Neige's MagiCam account has the most followers and has been called pretty in his comments more than Vil has. His first commercial showing Neige as smiling with closed eyes can even be seen as a nod/reference to how often Snow White smiled with her eyes closed. According to Neige, the last time he saw Vil was when they were participating in a school drama. It could mean that the two of them attended the same middle school.
